Kanati is releasing the Mud Hog (basically a slightly modernized GY MTR) in a 39x12.5/17.

Seems like keeping the tire at 12.5 and 39” vs. 40” could relieve the exhaust and fuel filler clearance issues leaving only some basic fender/quarter trimming.

I bought a set of original MTR’s 16 years ago and loved them but after running the SS TRXuS, I don’t know if I ever want to try any other tire again.

I used to say that about Trxus. It’s the only tire I would run if I could replace them every 15K.

That 39x12.5 is a brilliant size, though. There is too much gap between 37” and 40” and the 38.5 are all wider tires, typically 14.5 - 15.5”. The 40’s are all wider as well, but strangely more typically 13.5”.

Either way, it’s a lot harder to deal with width than diameter. The 39” Mud Hog is spec’d down to an 8.5” rim so that tire can conceptually still fit in the wheel well as a 12.5”. Going wider you have to trim to the top of the tire because you can’t stuff it.

That looks like a great option.
Did you find pricing?

Another great option is the TrXus 38.5x14.5 in 16" or 17" even though it is 14.5 wide the tread is more like a 12.5" wide tread. Not sure this fits in the 40"+ thread but is kind of stuck inbetween size so I wont post pics.

Not yet, but the 37” is about $240/tire to your door.

My guess is the 39” will price competitively to 37’s. What would we awesome is if Kanati does the same thing with the Trail Hog since that’s a heavier duty Duratrac.

I’m hoping somebody in marketing somewhere is realizing that the 37” ceiling is busted and we need some options >37” and <ridiculous.

HAHA, I remember that as well. The day I installed my 33s I felt like the king of the world... about a month later I wanted 37s, lol. Getting ready to breath life back into the 80 and get her back wheeling after several years on the rack and back and forth with work. In these pics...you have relocated dual batteries, paint prep, LizardSkin sprayed on the inside. Curious to see if the lizard skin really helps with the sound and more importantly the insulation.

Just got on the new rubber tonight. In pics, the patriot 40-15.5R20 and the old 42-14R17 iroks.

The new 40’s are roughly 1 million times smoother and quieter than these clapped out swampers. Got a 2600 km round trip planned next week, not including some trails. It should make all the pavement driving bearable. Nice to hear the turbo again instead of the tires

Edit: did a trip to Oregon and back, about 27+hours of pavement there and back with them, they were so much nicer and quieter than any other mud tire I’ve ridden on pavement with. Better than the 35” open country MT’s even for noise I’d say. Definitely better than mud grapplers, geolanders, iroks for noise and handling. Hopefully they wear good and last long as well!
