Is there a need for three jerry cans full or will two suffice? I have all three but trying to minimize weight...

Although not definite, we "might" be forced to leave the party on Saturday and will exit through the Tahoe side instead of going back to Loon. I am on the Wagon run...

Thanks...

John

Last year I filled up about 15mi from the icehouse turnoff on 50 and still had over 1/4 a tank when I exited on the Tahoe side. The 5 gallons I had in my rotopax containers went to a thirsty 40 so its still a good idea to bring a few extra gallons along but most likely your 80 wont need them.

Great! Good to know.

Well, my truck isn't quite up for it this year and its fate at this point is a little shaky (may or may not sell it this year :(), but if anyone is willing to take a passenger.....

...I'd do my best at spotting and pull cable/stack rocks when needed.... lol

Did you find yourself a ride?

My second rider might not make it due to family emergency... He'll call me to confirm in two hours...

To those with a wagon.....

Who is planning on running w/o a front sway bar? I ran one last year and it did ok but I keep hearing about the mounting brackets possibly tearing off. I have a '94 so my ABS lines are not at risk of being taken out. My wagon will be full (4 adults, lots of gear) so I am concerned about stability and lean on side hill sections, but in theory removing the sway bar should help with that. Thoughts?

Hey Brian,

My wife and I, along with another couple are also staying at Icehouse on Tuesday night (we are in the wagon run). Should be up there around 9pm.

You are welcome to check out the brackets I "fabbed" to hold the ends of my front sway bar when it is disconnected. It is just two pieces of angle iron with some holes drilled in them. bolted under the front bump stops (found on earlier 80's) Just like the ones in phil's thread except without the extra piece hanging down.

First timer, on the wagon run, family and two wagons, looking for a recommendation on which campsite to overnight in tomorrow night. From the looks of the Forest Service site it seems that some of the campgrounds have to be reserved ahead of time. Any input appreciated!

Check out icehouse resort. You can either get a room or camp on their property for a reasonable fee. Loon lake will then be a quick drive the next morning.

All packed and ready for my first rubithon. Going on Sean's breakfast run. I was amazed how efficiently I packed my 40 for my wife and I. Most likely I am forgetting something if I fit everything in a 40.:hmm:

Ice House Resort is a great place. If you are looking for free camping, Airport Flat is available. It's just a little past the cut off to Loon Lake on your left hand side.

And I’m out!

If you need to register or take care of payment, please DO NOT do via PayPal or over the internet. We will take care of it in the Springs. Time to pack the rest up of my stuff up and I’m heading into the Springs in the morning.

If you have a question you can try to call or text my cell at 530-401-0800.

One last reminder, cash or check only in the Springs and if you are coming in later in the week, we would greatly appreciate it if you could bring some in. I’m packed full with ice, but it is supposed to be a hot one!

Safe travels everyone, and remember to have fun; it’s all about being on the trail, not how fast you can get in the Springs!

Ahh, I wish I could make it, but I've still got final exams until Wednesday afternoon.
Hope all goes well with your friends family, and thanks for the offer!

Bad, thanks for the input. Also curious about the numerous restroom facilities that show up on a map (http://www.edcgov.us/Government/Rubicon/RubiconTrailMap.aspx) from Marlin's site (http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=98535.0). TLCA's info says nothing about restrooms along the trail that I can find. I'm prepared to pack it all out so no big deal, just wondering if anyone can confirm the bathrooms on the map from Marlin's site.

YES there are facilities along the trail. BUT it is always a good idea to be ready to pack it out if necessary.

Tell your instructor to let you do a take home exam.

Anyways, my offer stands if you decide to.

Good luck on the exam...

Thanks. Haha I wish I could do that, but its a speech class. Ironically, the speech I'm giving is about getting outside/camping more.

...quarter systems suck. Haha

Maybe I'll make it next year after I get that fancy piece of paper from the school...

Machinist, been there, done that, you're doing the right thing - it'll pay dividends later. My first car, back in '83 when I was still in high school, was a '73 FJ40 with several Rubicon plaques on the glove box from the previous owner. I had that 40 for only a couple of years before I rolled it outside of Barstow. I tried to fix it (fairly clueless at the time) but ended up selling it so I could buy one way plane tickets for my bride and me to college. Since then I've been dreaming about doing the Rubicon, and this year I'm finally doing it!! Only took me 32 years, but it's finally happening and I'm stoked!! I bought a stock '87 FJ60 back in '92, which my kids drove through their high school years. I've since fixed that up a bit, and my kids have their own rigs. Very proud to be going with my son this year in his '97 LX450 that he's worked hard on to get ready (he just did a full engine swap). Point is, good luck on your finals - school can be the foundation of a happy future! Just don't wait 30+ years to do the Rubicon!!! Last thing - you're not too far away, perhaps we could get together sometime when your schedule permits. Make your own luck on your finals!

Jenn and I are at cabins at ice house resort right now. It's not 5 star but clean and comfortable. Grass is nice for last minute pre trail repairs! :). Super comfy! ; ). They have gas here and stor is well stocked. Nothing is cheap but hey it's supply and demand working out herein the woods! :) We are enjoying ourselves... :). Anyone showing up here tonight?
