I followed last years thread and it inspired me to try and make this years rubithon. I still have a couple things left to do to the 40 but i think I will make it. My 40 has 4" lift sua on 35s locked front and rear . I will have sliders soon and working on skid plate and diff armor. Since this will be my first rubithon I was thinking on going on the wagon run or do you think I would be ok on the 40 only run ?
You should be fine either way. I would make the call based on how many days you spend on the Rubicon and whether or not you want to stop and set up camp one extra time. The wagon, or mixed runs will give you a little more time to 'explore' the trail as you move through it.
Your vehicle is fine running SUA. I ran my first year with that setup. Skid plate is absolutely needed, but if the sliders don't make it, you should still be OK. It is fun pivoting a 40 around the boulders using your slider.
The Wednesday morning "40 only" run is straight through, which is great if you've been up here multiple times, but for your first time, I would jump onto the Thursday Breakfast run. I think it's a good 1st Rubicon run, you take your time and you camp on the trail (at Buck Island).
I'm not aware of any other "40 only" run. All vehicles are welcome on all runs, but we created the FJ Cruiser and Wagon runs since they are unique beasts, and it helps to follow a similar vehicle. If you're new on the trail, it helps you to see the lines better. A wagon has a harder time following a 40's wheel placements.

I'd agree with Woody, the breakfast run on Thursday would be a great first time on the trail trip. If you want the extra day in camp to explore, then the Wagon run may be for you.
I will say the wagon run gets very full so it can take a bit longer, but the group of guys with Andy are top notch and will get you through.
Got the 19th/20th off work and just registered online! Looks like I'm going! Wife agreed to go too (and more importantly ok'd sliders, bumper, and a few other goodies). Hopefully get a spot on the TOTR run. Wanted to do the wagon run but cant get the 18th off. Have just over 3 months to get the 80 ready.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure i'll have more questions. I think the breakfast run will be the way I go. I won't be in such a rush to get down there and I was planning on staying at icehouse anyway

As a long-time 'Mud lurker, and even longer-time wheeler, I've always wanted to wheel the Rubicon and I think this will be the year. I've reviewed the registration form, see the TLCA # field and have a question: Is TLCA membership required? Inquiring minds want to know.

Yes. You must be a member.
Rubithon is a TLCA hosted event. Our insurance requires it, as does our Bylaws.
In fact, most TLCA sanctioned events require TLCA membership

Yes TLCA membership is required. I'd strongly suggest doing the Premier registration. Not only does it cover your food Saturday night, you get an extra grand prize raffle ticket, it covers your TLCA membership, and in my opinion most importantly it will enroll you in coverage by CalStar for all family members in your household.
If you get hurt up there with any seriousness to it at all, the helicopter gets called in. That is an expense you don't want to have deal with! If you've never done the Rubicon, even just a broken ankle can be excruciating to try to get off the trail with!!

Does anyone bring their children? I've never done this trail and would like to do it in my 94 fj80 (OME lift, 33s, F/R lockers, sliders, F/R ARB and Slee bumpers, Slee tcase belly plate) with my wife and 4.5 year old son. Any advice would be welcomed -- not sure if its a family friendly thing or more adults only and/or mostly dudes. I think I would register for the wagon run. Thanks!
Kids are welcome! My son is 9 and has been on the trail starting at age 4. Last year we were in the Wagon run and there were several other kids with us of various ages.
Sounds like your 80 is set up about right. 33's will work, I have driven sections of this trail with 33's but am on 35's and like the extra bit of clearance and cush. Wagon run is a good way to go! pm Cruiser Drew if you have any questions. Here is a link to my trip on the con a couple years ago:

Was not trying to scare you off, I love this trail! I try to make a "clean run" every time but my wagon always looks a little bit more like "its been over the Rubicon" after every trip.
