Hello to the 2f engine professionals here,

i'm thinking about getting the Offenhauser intake manifold for my 2f engine.
I have at least two questions about this.
And does anyone of you know where i can get an Offenhauser intake manifold,or maybe one of you even has one for sale ?
Because here in germany there is absolutely no chance of finding one.
But...and now the professionals are asked here...is it recommended to screw an offenhauser 4-fold intake manifold onto the 2f ?
There would also be a header and an electronic distributor.
Would that to be a good think,or would you feel that in terms of performance or rather less ?
I would be happy to get some answers.
It doesn't matter whether it's positive or negative...

Kind regards and thank you in advance,

Jürgen

Hi. I didn't know they made such a thing. Put an ad in the classified section. You would be miles ahead with fuel injection and I don't even like fuel injection.
Mine came with a Rochester 2bbl and a Delco distributor. It gets 25 miles per gallon, more important to me than a lot of things like fancy names.

I did my time in Ludwigsburg. I miss racing the beer trucks on the autobahn in my deuce and a half

they are few and far between.... but... do come up for sale now and again... they even had them for the early 40ś as well

@Downey used to sell them AFAIK

I would contact OG usa parts places that may have one from a parts truck ... problem is being in germany and alot of guys dont want to ship overseas as its a PITA for parts at times.... as said above wanted section.... and call around to OG parts places

maybe @FJ40-GARAGE or @a.greenspan might even know of somebody as they are in germany and is OG :)

@FJ40-GARAGE hasn't been around since i fell off as well

That is the DP style which is supposed to have separate runners for primary and secondary barrels on the carb. The idea was that it would run around on the smaller runner, then when the throttle is opened the secondaries come on the runner cross section would effectively double. Some people have run them with small 4 barrel carbs for that purpose.

I believe they also made another design that was open runners, but those are less common to see for sale.

If you are using a header, either the F or 2F versions could be made to work (may need to open some holes.) I have an F version in my basement I picked up with the throttle body EFI systems first came out that I havent done anything with.

Edit: had this photo saved

Twenty five? At what speed, 25 also? With a tail wind?

Actually part freeway at then 55mph for about 50 miles out, then about 70 miles idling along in second gear road hunting varmints, then back to the same gas pump I filled up at on the way out. I did this for many years and always got 25mpg for the trip.

Based on the race shop that rebuilt my engine, the heads (small ports etc) on the 2F are the biggest limiting factor for power. I can’t imagine that manifold would help much as it would all get restricted in the head

I have built a few "warmed" 2Fs.

2Fs like free flowing headers. the OEM exhaust is not free flowing

2Fs like free flowing intakes. The OEM 2F intake is not free flowing

2Fs like longer taller cams. The OEM cam is anything but.

2Fs can (when warmed over a bit) really benefit from a small 4barrel carb.

Clifford used to make a high flowing 4 barrel manifold for the 2F
Offenhauser used to make a nearly identical one called the " C series". I believe it may have been the cliffors design that they purchased?

Offenhauser used to make a "Dualport" manifold for the 2F. It was a sort of dual plane system where the primary 2 barrels of a 4barrel carb ran through smaller runners and the secondaries dumped into separated and larger runners.

All three of these manifolds worked very well on the 2F

For a year or maybe two, Toyota made a much higher flowing intake that was found on some of the mid production F engines. Basically separate runners to each cylinder, instead of the SMALL shared runners that were the norm.

To the bst of my knowledge, none of these manifolds are in production. I am not aware of any NOS sitting around anywhere.

With any of the three, if you find a used one, carefully inspect the "ears" where the bolts clamp the manifold to the head. these are prone to cracking. More than a few used Offys are missing one of the ears. :(

I think I still have one of the dualports here. Cracked ear waiting to be repaired. Gotta see if I can find the ear, or I am gonna have to build up some material by welding and then machine it down to shape. :(

Hello friends,

First of all, thank you very much for your numerous and really insightful answers, really a great forum here. 👍
I think I would like to have an Offenhauser intake manifold,a carburetor that isn't to big,a header and an electronic distributor.
Maybe I'll have the cylinderhead machined too.
At first I thought I would put a Weber carburetor on my engine, but somewhere in this forum I read that the original Aisin is supposed to be better than the Weber.
And then at some point I found out about the Offy.
Two days ago I googled intensively about the Offy and found the following...it was a website where the Offy supposedly only costs 66 dollars...🤔🤔🤔
That can't really be true,or what do you think ?
Isn't that a little too cheap ?
I'll try to post a photo from the website here right away.
Or if I can manage it,the link.

Kind regards and see you later,

Jürgen 😎✌️
