It may have just been a ‘74 thing, but it’s missing the captive nuts on the outside because the original roll bar had studs welded to the roll bar foot for the outside two fasteners. The inside one missing likely broke off or a PO removed it to use a different bolt.

This thread shows what was used on 74’s: Recognize this roll cage fastener? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/recognize-this-roll-cage-fastener.1050660/

I removed the studs on mine and just used grade 10.9 bolts on the outsides.
Thanks for responding as well and for the link

All factory roll bar bases only had holes and used bolts going into fixed nuts to the brackets spot welded to the wheel well. If yours has studs welded that was probably done later because the bolts were probably rusted to the fix nuts and those broke off. With studs there would be no way to bolt in the lap belts for the jump seats.

so I was talking to another member earlier today and he made the same comment regarding the seat belt. However the welded studs where only on two out of the four holes in the mounting plate. The studs were also on the side closest to the outside of the cruiser. Doesn’t the bolts for the seat belts fit closer to the center(

Yes that's where they go. No diagram shows any nuts that would be used on studs. The part number for the main bar is 63201-90300 9/73-2/78. 2/78 is when the three point seat belt moved to the roll bar. It was beefed up at that time. I have a 10/75 FJ40 with 4,500 miles on it. I'm 100% positive it used bolts for all the bases of the roll bar. This is as rust free cruiser you will find. That's the original muffler.

I’m assuming that’s why they were only used on the outsides? The diagram in the thread I linked to had a part number referenced for the studs. From what I can find this was a 74 model year only thing. But I could be totally wrong.

BTW if anyone is having difficulty locating the couple SAE fine thread bolts used due to the seat belts I was able to find them at advance.

October 73. In the other thread on the matter at least one other truck had it as well.
Yeah mine is a 11/73. They started the roll bar in 9/73. I truly believe our roll bars had a stud welded on and probably changed it not long after. Do you have any seat belts for the jump seats? Mine aren’t in place and would like a picture of it’s position.

Would like to see pictures of these welded studs, top and bottom.

Here is the seat belts in my 10/76. Bolt used is on the front inside bolt front and back on all four corners.

Like the other member in the link those look like carriage bolts. I do not see any sign of a weld on the stud the picture. Bolt break inside fix nut or fixed nut breaks the welded that the easiest fix for someone without a welder.

Personally if rust was a issue I would use a nut or two to cover the exposed thread on the bottom and cover the whole whole works with heavy grease. The exposed threads get loaded with rust and even if a bolt breaks loose it locks up once all he rusted thread into the fixed nut.

Just to provide more information, note that there were three versions of the "Passenger Protector".
7309 - 7802
7802 - 7901
7901 - 8007(+?)

The fiche doesn't illustrate any revised illustrations, so the variants may (or may not) have to do with fasteners, pads and seat belt attachments.

The welds were 3 little perfectly round welds that were not visible on the top of the stud or the bottom of the foot when I removed them this spring. I’m thinking they had to be done in some sort of manufacturing process but I’ll defer to you guys. Here a couple pictures I took when I removed them.
