anyone have any tips or tricks to keep the OEM mirrors locked in position?
Im ready to pay the piper for the Racer Euro Mirrors:

But while I wait for more to show up, any tips on keeping these in position for longer than 15 minutes?

Mine don't budge. Are yours OEM?

Mine move after time, mostly after driving at highway speed. They are tight, but I have to readjust weekly.
I think they are OEM...do yours look the same? or do you have the earlier round mirrors?

My '83 has those mirrors. Those look OEM, but it is hard to tell. There are a lot of aftermarket ones that aren't as well-sorted.

Looks like aftermarket based on this image...same SW imprint.

I would try popping the mirror off the arm and cover the ball on the arm with either Teflon or electrical tape. Option B would be to trim the back to the mirror. The spot where the pinch half's are touching. Or a combo of both. In the long run will probably need new mirror heads.

I thought about that this weekend, but I couldn't get the ball to pop out of the socket and I was afraid Id break the glass. Ill try again.

I have used fat straight screw drives above and below. Another option would be to something rigid on the face and use clamps on the back just outside the area pinch area on the back. Still a chance the mirror will crack. I would try it on the passenger side first. If it works to remove mover to the driver side. That way of the driver side breaks have the passenger side to use will getting a replacement. This is probably one of those items work get from a dealer if available. Or looking at the ones from City Racer. I know he doesn't sell junk.

Found the part numbers...it looks like the mirror should orient horizontally instead of vertical like I have it. I wonder if this woulds help?

I ordered OEM mirrors...hopefully this will solve the issue, otherwise I'll just live with it :)

It appears mine are aftermarket and have been on the truck for years.
BTW the OEM mirrors are defiantly vertical orientation as shown on the back

I fought with those worthless plastic mirror heads until a raven wiped out the DS mirror, showering me with mirror fragments.

Then I found these CCOT Mirrors on Amazon... these stay where I point them... and they came with brackets that allowed me to mount them to the door hinge.

Well worth the price!!

FWIW, and to be taken with a grain of salt, or sugar, or pepper, or garlic, or whatever spice of your choosing...

With one of these in between the ball and mirror socket:

I can do this:

And these have never been adjusted; well except for that one time.......

.....all better!

But there are many different solutions to this problem......just say'n

How about a dab of RTV on the ball? After it 'cures' it should hold position well, won't be a permanent mod and should still allow some adjustment. Cheap too.
