I have been trying to acquire a OEM air conditioning unit for a late model FJ40 and have been unsuccessful so far.

I don't want to get a Vintage Air or Cool Cruisers after market air conditioning unit as I have been bitten by the sickness and want to keep it as OEM as possible.

I have almost all the parts from an earlier model (thanks Eric and Poser!) but am running into a stumbling block with the heater air duct tube from the firewall to the heater.

In the models with air conditioning the duct is angled to accommodate the under dash evaporator blower. I am thinking about trying to alter a stock one and trying to make it slanted like the one in the picture using fiberglass.

Another option is to try to fab some attachment plates and attach a rounded type flexible tube.

Does anyone have any experience as far as the best work around?

Also, I have the under dash evaporator blower unit that has two vents and does not have the corner vents. I believe that the late model FJ40s had the one with the corner vents? Does anyone know if that is correct?

I have attached some pics for reference.

Thanks in advance as I can't believe how incredibly helpful people are on this site and I can't thank you all enough for your input.

Yes, it is a left hand drive vehicle.

Sorry about that, I should have posted that as that makes a big difference in the heater air duct for sure!

I've altered a lot of plastics using a heat gun... Doing the mod you're talking about, and having it look decent would be very challenging.

You'd likely be better off making a plaster model and either molding black Copolymer over it or forming fiberglass over it using vacuum and PVA bags. Let my know if you want to go either route, and I'll see if I can help.

Classic Cruisers

Classic Cruisers in Colorado has a pretty big boneyard full of cruiser junk. Years ago I remember seeing a pile of stock ac units in a storage area. It might be worth the call.

Here's a link to their website Home

That which you seek is the elusive L200 A/C duct (part #87211-60160.) You could use your oem system with the flex duct and adapters from a Cool Cruisers system. Yes, it is kind of cheesy, but it works and most of it would be hidden behind the evaporator.

Even if you could cut a bevel into the original LH041 duct and somehow seal it, I don't think it would work because the two ducts do not follow the same routing.

About 12 years ago, I put a new Cool Cruisers system into my fj40. Most of their system is actually a good, quality system. I did, however, replace their flex duct with the correct L200 Toyota duct and it worked very well. Guess what part I still have left over from that project?
