October '06 Baja Run

Just food for thought.

It is a while out but in October I am planning on heading into Baja for about 16 days.

Expedition style, down the inside, the Sea of Cortez.

Camping, exploring and puting the '93 80 to the test.

This will not be new to me as I did the same trip on an XR600 about 4 years ago but could not camp as the bikes had no room for gear.

I also did a driving trip in a vehicle to the same area about two years ago but mainly went just to dive.

I figure, with more room for fuel, food and beer, there will be much more room for the "EXPLORATION" part of it.

I am an experienced diver and will be bringing equipment for that but not necessary for the trip.

October is chosen because the water in Cortez is warmer after the Summer rather than in Spring.

Have a great time. I was there last October. Played between San Ignacio and Loreto. Camped on the Gulf, on the Pacific, and in the mountians. There is no better place, IMHO.

My next trip down will be in March, and it will be a long time before I'm able to traverse the peninsula again.

October is a great time of year for a trip, though the daytime temps can get a little high (all the more reason to hang out on the beach).

I just returned from nearly three weeks down there, driving all the way to Cabo and back.

We explored some fantastic off-highway routes, so let me know if I can provide a few suggestions. I have all of the GPS tracks for nearly 500 miles of back roads that I have travelled.

Have a great time, Baja is a fantastic place. Even years later, I am still stricken with her charms...

You are right about the never ending charm of that place.

I was down there last April for only about 4 days, San Felipe, Puertocitos and Gonzaga...quick trip but I could do it a thousand times and never get sick of it.

Funny, when I went down then...I had a truck very much like yours.
No mods, but same truck. White even. Good color.

wait till mid November so you can catch the Baja 1000 it's going to LaPaz this year. There is some really grat 4 wheeling and camping/ fishing near the Bay of LA.

Actually, I want to miss the 1000.

I have seen it before and the San Felipe 250 about 6 times.

Great for a while but too many wackos flying around taking up space and disturbing the peace.

Where in Bahia LA did you camp and fish. North or south?

Blew through there on dirt bikes and filled up with gas out of a 50 gallon drum in some local's garage, but did not stop to smell the roses.
