OK so what do I have to do to get in on an ONSC OBX run?
I'll pay dues, I'll take you on a private Cullowhee run, I'll even wash dishes.
I've been wanting to put the street tires back on the FJ and tear up some sand ever since I bought it.

Why cain't we all jest git along?
And will I get shot for wearing an ONSC sticker next to my UC one? Cause I'm doing it ever since I went to URE to (I thought) an ONS run.
If you'll tell me where I'll send some dues. If there are any.

no way wild bill!! you know i didn't mean it like that.....Oldnorthstate guys are great guys and are welcome to almost all UC events as far as i know.

I am trying to organize an ocracoke (sp?) trip sometime in the spring... :)

As to Cullowhee, I think if you wanna talk about come on over to the UC board.

I'm planning for it....unless it gets crowded. Something tells me camping will be limited if 30 rigs are going already.

Well, we have strict criteria for membership: you must have a 6th finger on your left hand, you have to have owned a Toyota 4WD for 28 consecutive years; and your Cruiser must be on our approved colors list. We only allow ppl whose house numbers are in a certain range to attend certain events. Then after 6 years of apprenticing for the club, you are the subject of an initiation ritual. Don't worry, the physical scars go away after a year or 2.

We have no dues, Bill. We have no formal process, we have no politics, we have no requirements other than you must own a Cruiser. If you want to do an OBX ride, post up.

We're trying; and not doing too badly considering the "club" really only kickstarted this spring. It seems that many NC folks, yourself included, are much more interested in UC than ONSC, which is totally fine and for which there are good reasons. That just means we have to build on the core group we have, get some momentum, and build the mass to be able to do our own events.

You're very welcome to help out as well.

To me, there is no "competition" among clubs; we all have the same goals, perhaps just different means of getting there. And yes, I am a UC member too, UC is a fantastic club.

While we are on this subject. Is there a president for ONSC? Bylaws? TLCA? Have yall thought about these things.

If you get a leader who is willing to put in a little time and organize a few meetings. Which it seems like you are doing. Get centralized and stick with it. Triangle area should have plenty of cruiserheads especially with the FJCs that are out there. From what I can tell ya'll have a good core. Bylaws can be adopted from any club or even TLCA. It's not hard and they are rarely used. I know you have half a dozen TLCA members in your club. Fill out the form from TLCA and become a charter club. That is more than half the battle. Charge a few bucks for membership so you can afford stickers and such and your rocking and rolling. I'd be more than willing to answer any questions ya'll have and help in any way. More clubs the better. In the end we are all cruiserheads no matter what club your in.

A few of us in the Triangle discussed those topics, Marshall. We have no president, no bylaws, we're not affiliated w/ TLCA, and there are no dues.

From the conversation we had at a social event, there didn't seem to be interest in any of that. Perhaps if the club grows and becomes more active, some structure will be needed, but IMHO we're fine for the time being.

Greg is our de facto leader.

actually i went to several of th ONS meetings early on, then they trickled out and fell apart. That was a few years ago. So i gave up and went to the UC guys who constantly had events and meetings ect...

I can't make most of their meetings since it's a 3.5 hour drive one way, but i try to attend their events when they are close.

If ONS had more events, i would certainly want to attend and would put my membership back on active duty.

no competition between clubs at all....i just wanted to actually wheel and not sit around talking about where to drink beer and talk about trucks. That's all. No hard feelings.

I will chime in on this one, I am the one that originally wanted to get the crowds together and start some sort of organized club participation and meeting and believe it or not trail rides, the first meeting we had actually took place after a URE ride in Greensboro. I believe at first we had 8-10 people that evenin' at the meeting and maybe 3 on the ride prior too...We then proceeded to try and organize some sort of schedule and even plan gatherings and rides according to schedule and locations. We then ran into the fact that people weren't willing to travel to meet with other cruisersheads, or their schedule wouldn't allow...and it was at this point it began to fall apart, numerous times the triangle even opted to travel west to make it more convenient for those in the western part of the state, it is very understandable due to the width of NC to accomodate everyone at once, however with on involved effort an attempt can be made.

Lately we have had a very involved triangle crowd and just recently a few rides, there will always be scheduling conflicts for individuals, and thats understanble. I am completely open to the ideas of others and would like to have a more involved and enthusiastic crowd. I completely agree in the aspect that some individuals just enjoy driving and owning a cruiser and just enjoy talking cruisers while others also enjoy using them to their full potential, finding that medium is where group gatherings are beneficial, it's an opportunity to discuss events in which all requests can be met.

I personally feel there is great potential in NC for a fantastic club, as there is a significant amount of cruisers and cruisers enthusiasts statewide, not to mention we have two fantastic locations open to us too test our rigs (URE and Tellico, not to mention some scouted locations as well) as long as we take care and maintain them. Maybe this is the boost needed to get everyone more involved. Unitl we reached a more organized and routine schedule I see no need to charge anyone dues, nor do i really see a need in the future. I also invite anyone anytime to join us on/at any event we may discuss in the future whether it be at Tellico, URE, OBX...etc.

There's maybe a half-dozen to 10 folks in the Triangle who are getting together regularly to try and get this going. If you think meeting once a month to drink and talk trucks is all we're about, you're mistaken.

We've done a coupla HAMOM's and one scouting trip and one wheeling trip as well. Not much, but a nice start.

With our small numbers, it's a challenge to schedule anything but we're getting there. I doubt UC had 100 ppl day one with a year's worth of events planned?

I indefinitely extend an invite to you, Alex, to participate, help shape the club, help get it going. See Greg's post just above this for more info on where we are right now and figure out what needs to be done to make this a better, more active club.

Let me make one thing clear, we are all after a common goal, lets not get caught up in who is doing what, or what club is more active, and so on....lets just move forward and make an enjoyable and inviting environment for both locals/members as well as nearby clubs and their members as they have often done for us. We are moving forward in a positive direction so lets keep it that way, it would be nice to get some individual responsibilities among the group in the near future.

Sweet man, I've got all of that and scars dont bother me at all!, I joined UC not quite a year ago mainly due to lack of activity on the ONS site, but consider this my membership post to ONS also, I think UC is an awesome group and I will always keep a membership there and gladly pay any dues involved to do so (I would also gladly pay dues to ONS also), but theres no reason why we cant get ONS up and running also, I think theres a good start already, and make the Carolinas the best Cruiser groups around.

Completely agreed!

It speaks volumes that UC members/officers have offered to help. Hopefully we'll get to the stage where we can offer to help them in some way.

Noone should see the clubs as competitors, but rather as complementary.

I just want to see people get engaged w/ ONSC. We're building a club for the ground up, it's an exciting opportunity for everyone.

Wow....we are far from the original intentions of the thread I created.

However, I have been the main driving force behind the Winston-Salem "club" and I recognized quickly that we must start from scratch here. Three years ago, there was no W-S or greensboro presence that I knew of. Now, I have a long list of both that attend meetings here and there. The ONSC "club" gives us a central organization for w-s, greens, and Raleigh. As we move on, we'll likely combine these efforts for trails and periodic meetings. I made the ONSC last meeting, and will make this month's too....despite the commute.
If I may be so bold, we'll have two trail rides in the next two months that combine both "clubs". It's a start, and everyone seems to be open to it.
That being said, I plan on suggesting alternate dates at Culowhee, OBX, Tellico, and UHW than what the other clubs are running. Not because we don't care for other clubs, but the numbers involved in running several clubs through a venue at the same time is daunting to the trail and the organizers. We'll all have fun, protect the envriro, and grow seperately. There seems to be one "conclave' though, and that's GSMTR. The beauty of GSMTR is that it's a large enough event and trail system that we can all participate without politics. Greg and I are in communication to pull everything together, so we'll keep you posted.
