We need to go ahead and appoint a president. This person has to be someone that has the time and the desire to get things going....That is the single reason why UC has been succesful, not to take away from past presidents (I have known the club for about a year, so do not know about past history) but since Marshal became president it seems to me things have changed a great deal. There has to be 1 leader we can not have everybody trying to be one. We need one head and then make a couple of departments where there will be somebody in charge to assist the president. This idea of the club being a free society where everybody contributes is not going to take us anywhere. Yes people make the club through their contributions but they have to be within an organizational context where there is a leader.

I propose that this Sunday at the meeting we appoint a president or leader or organizer whatever the title and go from there....

I really haven't had anything productive to say in this thread since I stuck my foot in my mouth in post #7. Shows you how much I pay attention to the rules...

Anyway, I was at the first meeting (sans the wheeling) Greg mentions and have seen this club's direction / momentum ebb and flow, all with good intention.

Bottom line (and absolutely no knock on any one person, event or circumstance) but I 100% agree with Juan's post above; one individual having / making the time to lead being the most important part since almost everyone has the desire for this club succeed.

Wow, what a heavy thread! It sounds to me like we need to all sit down and have some beers and maybe some Zanex. Just kidding, but you guys have gotten way too serious.

1. If we want the club to grow and become more structured, we need to elect a couple of officials (ie President, Sec., and maybe a Treas.)

2. We should lean on UC for knowledge and experience on what works and what doesn't.

3. We should have at least 1 event per month that brings everyone together on a regular basis (HAMOM, Trailride, BBQ, etc.), not just meeting at the bar for an hour or two.

PS - I have been Pres. and held other offices of several orginazations in the past, but I spend too much time working on the 40 to be an officer now :)

Well, we have strict criteria for membership: you must have a 6th finger on your left hand, you have to have owned a Toyota 4WD for 28 consecutive years; and your Cruiser must be on our approved colors list. We only allow ppl whose house numbers are in a certain range to attend certain events. Then after 6 years of apprenticing for the club, you are the subject of an initiation ritual. Don't worry, the physical scars go away after a year or 2.

OK, I qualify for all that. The sixth finger is only visible to adepts who've imbibed the ritual potion. I've owned a Toyota 4WD minitruck for 2.8 yrs or more. My Cruiser is an approved color because it's factory stock. All I have to do is another 15 months of apprenticing. I started at N vs S at URE last December when my paper tag was still on. It's good to know the physical scars will go away. I thought all that body damage was permanent. My house number can be whatever you say. I've been beaten bloody in initiations before, bring it on.
Actually I joined and had the initiation with Ramon several weeks ago. See his thread "Pics from our URE ride." It was me that got him stuck and me that winched him out.
I guess the ONS sticker I put on next to my UC one can stay. I'll count myself a member-at-large until voted otherwise by a 100% paid membership who've all done 12 consecutive Tellico trails in the same day then stood in the River in Dec for the vote.

So let me know when the OBX trip gets on the schedule.

Since I'm too far away to make the business meetings I give my proxy to whoever is there whose name starts with the highest alphabetical placing.
I nominate for president the first guy who's willing to take it on. Props to planning a function per month minimum and double dues to whoever misses one.
