I like drum brake emergency brakes on the trail, Eldorado calipers with the emergency brake are getting harder to find, no longer need to be concerned about the axle walking out if it snaps.

A bigger reason is I'm cheap and already put too much time & money in a Cruiser axle.

Next axle on next trail vehicle will have disc brakes, full float and centered diff.

I forgot the 60 has e-brake in rear brakes . I sure wished the 40 did , I can't for the life of me get mine to work like it should . I have replaced the whole system and still want hold .

You know if you have your axles done by April , you can bring it to Mardi Krawl .

Roky
I install a line lock brake in front axle on my 40 for tree reason one if rear axle drive shaft or pinion brake you still lock front brake second I used on a couple situation on the rock to shift the truck to the side locking the front and use rear tires work best when you using the winch to pull.

I installed one last year and it works great . But I would still like the e brake to work along with the line lock . I guess once it warms up I'll have to get under it and see way its not working .

After the who is out of the way, I'll tell you the what :)

Luis's 40. The diff cage gives it away. Looks like the carrier cracked? I've always assumed either the cross-pin or the pinion would shear first, rotational force against a smaller area ya know?

Time for a rear ARB.

There you go. I knew it wouldn't be hard ;)

He's been moving a lot of trees off his new properly. Apparently that was a little too much for the lockrite....

Looks like the cross pin sheared and carrier broke before taking the Lockrite out.
The Lockrites have stronger steel than the diff carrier does.

It will be interesting to see the Lockrite after he pulls it.

That reminds me, I need to get a Lockrite or Aussie because mine is broke too.

Steve, you're right on the money :)

He's getting an ARB for the rear. I think it's a regear time too. Tech-session time... if I wasn't so wrapped up with life and work I would have been at his house this weekend ;(

I think the oval holes on the lockright can put a lot of force on the carrier like it is being pushed apart from the inside. Big tires, gearing, hp, and traction is a heavy load. I have a couple carriers if needed.

Bret, Very good point. The contact area where the Lockright holes touch the center pin is small and concentrated.

I have an extra carrier too. I'm a little bit closer :)

This thread kind of died, time for a revival. Chopped my rearmost crossmember off and sold my hitch receiver, welded in a 2x4" (0.25" wall) and 0.75" recovery points. And some tubes (1.5" 0.25" wall DOM).

Next is to box the rear frame start accumulating parts for Spring-over

What's in store for the front??

Yeah I wanted to have a solid foundation for on boxing that rear section so my frenched shackles have a solid foundation, I'm kind of working a few steps ahead.

I'm putting a set of good stock FJ62 REAR springs in the front. With a shackle reversal (frenched).
