Another bit of a hijack but this is too good of a story and is related in the lack of speed. Actually it is probably the slowest expedition rig on earth:
GirlTractor.jpg

A young Dutch actress, Manon Ossevoort, is living her dream of diving a tractor from Holland to the South Pole. Top speed is a heft 20 kms/hr with an average speed not much more than walking speed of 5 kms/hr. I guess you really get to see the scenery. She done quite a few recoveries along the way including a bus which she towed for over 100 kms. The full story is here: BBC NEWS | Africa | Tractor woman on African rescues

The lady sure has guts - and patients!

The 1928 Graham-Paige is now in Harare, Zimbabwe, and they are staying with me, I saw a post on Facebook when they were in PE, RSA, and emailed them to come stay when they passed through

We are busy replacing a broken spring at Zimbabwe Spring Steel from their recent trip to Mana Pools, along the Zambezi River

www.sparkyourdream.net Herman Zapp & his wife Candelaria set out from Argentina in Jan 2000 and have been to 55 countries and all the continents except Europe and the Antarctic, in every conceivable wheather condition and road condition, 4000km through the Amazon, the dunes of Namibia, the Snows in the Arctic. They have stayed in over 2500 homes! They said the most incredible thing about this journey is the people! The people they have met, the people who have given them incredible strength to continue, who have opened up hearts & homes the world over, Rich, Poor, busy, regardless who just go out of their way to keep them going!

From here they travel to Bulawayo, Great Zimbabwe, then Mozambique & North! Towards Europe...

This vehicle is 2WD without diff lock, 6,00-19 Tyres, Homemade rooftop tent for the 4 kids, no Freezer, pantry on the back for food, with gas, cooker on the side, solar panel on the roof, inverter in the vehicle, basic tools, 2 spare Tyres at the front on the sides, wooden spoke rims!

Original Engine & Drive train, Mana Pools was the 3rd broken spring of The entire journey! And Zim Spring Steel has shortened & strengthened the back springs to compensate for the added weight on the back with the Kids & Food, mostly dry goods, Meat and Veg are bought on route on a daily basis. Water is. Carried at the front between the spare wheels & the engine.

A new core was put into the radiator in South Africa recently, and the flat head 6 had new pistons & rings put in 2002 in Half Moon, Albany, New York. Only the Fuel pump is not original, and he now uses an electric fuel pump which makes more noise than the engine, which travels comfortably at 55km/h and can reach a get away speed of 70km/h but is not happy :)

They are currently staying at White Waters orphanage in Matopos, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe whilest getting a full engine overhaul, I think it's the first complete overhaul since changing pistons in 2002 in the States
