lugi, i was thinking trailhead by 1000. gas up at general store at 0830, then form the convoy and general brief there until 0930 then move out to trailhead.
0830 is WAYYY to early for for me. My vote is to meet at the general store at 1000 as Fernando suggests. That's still a 0730 departure from DC area which is plenty early for a saturday morning. If we're on the trail by 1100, we're off by 1700 including an hour and a half for lunch. This is assuming we take the same route we took in November, we dont f@#$ around too much, and we don't have an unreasonably large number of trucks.

whatever works for everyone. Just trying to avoid a night ride in the woods. Just allotting emergency time in case there is a vehicle immobilization, which might not be from our group.
i remember that last time maintaining a safety vehicle line of sight on the trail was difficult, especially in a larger group. this time should be better since most of us installed cb radios.

I might be up for this once I see all the coordination is locked down and final if its not an issue that I'm not a club member. Would be coming from S. MD which is pretty much why I am not part of the club. Rolling a stock '92 80. Would likely bring my boy and my wife.
Turn around and go back to Flagpole Knob
Pass Flagpole knob and continue down 85A which becomes Union Springs Road (225B) at the intersection with Dunkle Hallow
Continue down Union Springs to Meadown Knob, 3880 feet
Continue on and you will find ruins of a stone cabin built by a Civil War defector - fun to get out and check out what this guy built - must of had a wooden roof when he was there.
Next will be a series of pools (stock frendly)
Next will be some interesting rocks that will likely require a little spotting for stock vehicles.
Once you start your desent it is mostly just a steep gravel road that eventually turns into pavement. Stopped on the gravel road portion and aired up.
This is what we did last time except in reverse. We started at Union Springs Road and did the route above except we went past Flag Pole Knob down fire rd 85 and exited onto Briery Branch Road.
What we have done in the past is pretty much the same run. However, once we get to Meadow knob we have the option of going out the same way that we did last time
or
if there is enough time (& interest) we can drop down the other side of the ridge through Dunkle Hollow and exit out on 33 at Skidmore Dam.
If youwant to plug something in the GPS for the trail head, use the Lat & Long from the following link. This is the small reservoir that we passed at the beginning of the last ride.

This trail ride is not a club sanctioned event, it is a family day on mild trails with a great group of folks who like to be outdoors and who are responsible off-roaders (meaning you tread lightly and take responsibility for your own actions). Please feel free to join the fun with your family. There are several families going so the kids should have fun at the breaks as well (have to get them out of the vehicles every so often you know).
That being said, non-members are also welcome at most club events. How else are you going to know if you want to join us? We have several members that live too far to make the meetings, but we also have Tech Days on Saturdays on a fairly regular basis so meetings aren't the only thing happening with the club.
Unfortunately, I will not ba able to join the group. I have been out of town too many days this past month and need to get caught up on my projects before Ol' Man Winter shows up to stay.
I'm not sure we're actually taking votes on this, but even coming from DC, I'm in for the earlier start. It may be worth it to ensure we're out of the woods (literally) by dark.

In that first picture of the trail what is that on the right . it kinda looks like bart or a big bird or even a log. i have to know its been bothering me . if it is bart what is he doing?
Wow - surprised you caught that given the scenery in the background. That is my 13 year old son wearing a unzipped hooded sweatshirt dancing around like a goofball.

I should have an extra cb if anyone needs one. uniden 510 with cigarette lighter plug with a magnetic antenna. I'll bring it along just in case.
I'm not planning to go on the trail ride but I do have an assortment of radio test equipment. You are welcome to stop by for a radio check-up. I am in the Burke area.
