I finally got to split open my new blue fan clutch part # 16210-66010. I let it drain for a week to get all the silicone oil out. After a week of draining, the silicone oil that came out is approximately 60ml including some of the oil that's on the rags and fingers:grinpimp:

I did not do any adjustment, just drained and refilled with 3 tubes (18ml each) of 10k cst OEM Toyota silicone fluid and added 5ml of the original fluid.

I'll install it when I get a new Koyo C1917 radiator.

Nice write up. I will look forward to hearing how it performs for you. Are you monitoring with a ScanGauge or equivalent?

Thanks. No ScanGuage but I will be installing an Autometer 2 1/16 electrical water temp gauge on the A pillar and the temp sender will be installed on the outlet water neck just right behind the distributor.

What's the part number for the 10K silicone, looks like 08816-1009? Cost per tube?

08816-10001, $11.99 per tube not including tax.

Thanks.

I want to know how your going to get those golf balls in there? MIke

Has anyone realized that you can buy Silicone Oil at hobby shops? RC guys are running this stuff in their differentials. I found 15000cst at my local hobby store for $9. I drained my blue clutch and got very little out of it. Perhaps 30ml and it was light brown.

Not sure if I need to do the Blue Fan clutch mod in tandem with the fluid replacement. Anyone still recommending the screw adjustments?

Wow, that is a bunch, most that I have measured were much less.

Yes, I found some 15 k at a hobby store locally. I drained and filled the original black hub aisin on the 93 with 50cc iirc. It feels much tighter than the 10k Toyota oil in that I've been running in a blue hub for 3 years. I bought an extra bottle so I could add it to the 97 blue hub if it can't hold its own against the az heat when we move next summer. Plus tools recommends 15K+ (20k iirc) in blue hubs.

On the blue, I always temp check, but rarely adjust, almost all are in the "good to go" range. For TX and blue hub, I would step up more, 20K+?

Golf balls wiill be in the hole at the course.......

Maybe the silicon oil makes them slick enough?? John

...and will be slick Phil Mickelson style:D

There's RC hobby shop near me but I still prefer an OEM Silicone oil, besides 10k cst is probably suitable for Mid Atlantic summer temp.

Yeap, that's a bunch and there's still maybe about 1ml left on the drain pan after transferring the fluid from the pan to the pee bottle.

Hey Tool, can you confirm if this is the good blue fan clutch? I read a lot of your posts saying that blue fan clutches are the wimpiest among clutches.

I cant see the shearing ridges, but the thermostat holder is cast, so would have to say it is the good, early type! That is the only other one that I have seen, is it one from that offshore order? That is likely why it had more fluid, later types typically come with less.

If it preforms anything like mine, it will be plenty. Mine has 10K and is working great after 5yrs of AZ torture. Be careful with the belts, mine will still screech them with a quick throttle snap after a heat soak.:hillbilly:

Kevin.....you mention in you last post that, "is it one from that offshore order? That is likely why it had more fluid, later types typically come with less." By more fluid do you mean it has a larger reservoir or they just put more oil in it verses the other clutches they put a less volume in?

The black and early blue have a larger reservoir and more fluid. In my experience, all around stronger clutch, it is to bad they neutered the new type.
