well, I drove 5.5 hours to buy my 80 today. On the way back, there was a slight clicking noise coming from under the trans tunnel. After about 100 miles it got very loud and shuddered when taking off from a red light. I started up a long grade and it was making a lot of noise and cutting out/not pulling right. I pulled into a lot and shut it down. Got out and looked under it, no puddles, good sign. Pull the oil dipstick and trans dipstick, full and clean, no bad odors.
I restart it and it is really making a loud clatter, not like lifters and not really like any rod knock i've ever heard. Shut it down immediately. I called the PO who stated it's never done anything like this before. I'm over an hour from his house and 3.5 from home. He is paying to have a friend tow it to a shop I have ties to with a lift and also giving me money back towards any repairs.
That being said, any thoughts? When I went to test drive it, it was very stiff shift from Hi to Low and the diff locks were very sticky too. He's only put 4k miles on it in 2 years but I don't think that would have anything to do with the performance/noises.
