I bought a 2003 LX470 and it had a dim screen that was also non-responsive. I purchased a used OEM display off of eBay and the screen quality is great. I am still having the non-responsive issue. When I turn the car on it asks me to select English or French. I hit English and the bubble on the display changes to green but it won't let me hit confirm. If I push the climate control button the screen will go to that display then back to the English/French screen.

What part needs to be fixed/replaced to get this functioning?

That looks like a good option. I have heard that it is finicky and a headache to do anything aftermarket. Have you actually installed that unit and how was it?

I believe those are the posts that say it was a miserable experience.

Any idea how to fix the factory system?

Replacing your existing head unit, which has replaced another head unit, with an aftermarket head unit isn't going to solve the underlying problem. You need to open the FSM and go through the troubleshooting steps, one by one, until you find the problem. There's a copy in the Resouces section.

No one can look at a CANbus system and find a problem. Well, I guess if a part is hanging loose you could, but that's never been my luck.

To fix what you have, try to start the car in diagnostic mode and see if you can interact with the screen then. Also it’ll tell you if there any faults or issues with your nav system. It requires using a paper clip to cross two slots on the OBD2 port. Im in my phone but if you search in the 100 series section you should find it.

You could try purchasing another nav unit to see if that fixes it. My nav ultimately failed and I had to buy a used off eBay. Before mine failed, it was very slow to respond sometimes. That MIGHT be your issue. You can grab the part number off the nav unit under the passenger seat and punch it into eBay. I bought mine off a used GX.

Butttt, since you have an LX, you could go for the T’Eyes listed above. The LX plays nice with the unit, compared to the LC which requires you to change out the factory amp. The T’Eyes unit looks awesome and if I had a LX I might have already installed one.
