Back to the topic at hand:
My 12V porter-cable drill and flashlight sets have finally completely died, after 10+ years of use.

I would like to replace w/ a new 12-18V drill & flashlight set that's mostly not made in ChiCom.

Favored nations would include NAFTA and places w/ functioning civil court systems, like germany, japan, Austria, sweden...

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't have time right now to scour the interwebs for what tool is made where.

Good luck with that. In my hunt for an angle grinder the only non China make I found was Bosch. I believe the model in my price range was from Malaysia.

These Festools are made in Germany

Festool Cordless Drills

...and this Snap On is USofA ;)

CDR6850, Driver/Drill Kit, Cordless, 18 Volt, Slide-on Battery, 1/2" capacity (U.S.)

Not sure Jim.
I hear their cordless tools are awesome. Just pricy as all get out. They may be guaranteed though like their hand tools. Not sure.

Don't forget garage sales for cheap tools.

I just picked up a Delta band saw, Milwaukee Sawsall,
4 Proto gear pullers, a 12 piece set of Greenlee hole punches.
18 miscellaneous taps and dies.
Kraetner needle nose set.
A Mitutoyo inside micrometer from 2-12 inches.
Not shown: Proto 1/4 inch socket set and misc. SnapOn sockets.

All made in the US, except for that cheap Taiwan band saw and the cheap Mitutoyo micrometer.

All for $75.
Mitutoyo is good gear, what is the preferred maker of mic's for you?

Dewalt makes all of the Snap-On cordless product.

I was told yesterday that Snap-On is considering pulling the MADE IN USA out of there advertisement since the BLUE POINT product is made oversees.

I've seen a lot of "Snap On" logo's on very non USA tool items at my local Costco.

They are selling their reputation to compete with the undercutting overseas manufacturers

Prices go up, quality goes down, and we all work for the Communists. So the good news is that you shouldn't need to brand shop much longer. They will all be the same.

The only non chinease grinder i can think of is walter , made in germany . There only good if you have large german hands other wise you will find it to fat . It will take massive abuse and is wonderfully balanced . Bring lots of money

Just joking about the Mitutoyos being cheap. I am old enough to remember the same type of discussion in the 70s and 80s about the crap tools (and cars) flooding the US from Japan. I still have those cheap "crap" Japanese tools.

Starrett makes pretty good micrometers too.

Most of the Ryobi power tools are made in Anderson, SC. Right down the road from me. Problem is they aren't the greatest tools to use though I've got a 4 1/2" grinder that has been abused for 10 years that is still kicking. It's my goto grinder now days.

My Bosch saber saw is made in switzerland - you can definitely feel to difference.
