Non Chinese power tools anyone?

Don't forget garage sales for cheap tools.

I just picked up a Delta band saw, Milwaukee Sawsall,
4 Proto gear pullers, a 12 piece set of Greenlee hole punches.
18 miscellaneous taps and dies.
Kraetner needle nose set.
A Mitutoyo inside micrometer from 2-12 inches.
Not shown: Proto 1/4 inch socket set and misc. SnapOn sockets.

All made in the US, except for that cheap Taiwan band saw and the cheap Mitutoyo micrometer.

All for $75.
Pentax 093.webp

Nice score!

Pinhead, great score!

If I had a choice, American made or other and not china made. Need to being in more $ to buy used american and repair it, or made some where else. This is the reason why.

talking about wood cases for tools

I have several cases that hold my specialized tools. ALL WAY to large!! All blow molded abs plastic. I will take a picture of one, and you will laugh at hoe big thay makes these things for example, master cylinder pressure caps.

I like wood. I want to make wood cases for my specialized tools. What wood is durable to abuse, holds up if there is oil on it "perhaps I can stain it" and is tough?

I was SOOO thinking of buying a chinese made mig welder. For some reason, a posting in CL came up. Picked up a nearly new lincoln for a fraction of the price. So far happy with it.

read the hole thread ..

as a regular guy working in a 3rd world country earning 3rd world country salary, I like good cuality stuff .. and I will get 'em each time that I can pay for that ..

It's just sometimes can't justify paying 100 more bucks for they cuality stuff that I use once a year at home.

If you offer me the chance to buy a power tool make in china, and other make in US for 25% difference I will pay the extra ..

It's just sometimes it's much more ...

I dont think I would pay over $100 for that drill press. Its a nice machine tho.
I see them at garage sales all the time. I have one almost the same, from an old us foundry thats bench mount like that. I got it for free form a freind years ago with a bad chuck. I got a new chuck and been using it for years.

Just be patient and they pop up.

I have my eyes on a mill instead

That drill press was for anyone else that was interested.

I would be better off with a milll that can also double as a drill press. I have seen new mills, chinese made for 2 grand at kms tools in BC. To me, that is way to little for such a complex machine. I cannot even imagine what the chinese workers are getting paid to make it never less the envireomental pollution these factories create on the enviroment. BTW, Is it my imagination, or is there some kind of weird odor that comes from chinese built machinery vs us made machinery?

i go to auctions all the time and buy tools good ol american made.sometimes i buy several so we have spares.we could put this country back to work if we wanted .the people have the power they just dont use it.what if right now everyone quit buying chinese crap and other forien crap ,jobs would come back and i bet gas would go way down because all those ships wouldnt be running back and forth;

boy thats a big topic to get into shelfboy, and one that i dont think needs to be dealt with on a tool thread.

i would like to point out though that gas prices arent high from the ships running back and forth, in fact most of the ships burn fuel oil or bunker fuel, its basically sludge and almost completely a waste product

This is my first post. Couldn't resist cause we get a lot of people asking us for US Made tools. It seems to increase weekly, or maybe I am just noticing it more....or the quality has fallen way below the value.

Makita makes some angle grinders that are US Made and others that are Canada (probly imported and re-tagged). They really aren't priced that bad compared to the dewalts, milwuauk, etc. Plus every customer who uses Makita's rarely replaces them when compared to ANY import.

I am in the process of signing up as a vendor on here and there is a need for a US Made tool thread. I will post it up when we get the green light...

I've been buying tools like crazy, Makita, JET, Stihl, John Deere - the joys of finally owning my own home. Have learned to stay away from Lowes and go where the local contractors and builders go.
