If anybody needs anything, post up. I'm running on inverter power and camping equipment right now. Maybe premature but it's never too early to help out.

EDIT: Well hopefully everyone made it through with a minumum of melted popsicles. I got my power back on around midnight and went out and shut off the rig.

This whole experience has me really thinking on how prepared one needs to be. I have supplies for several days, but how much is enough? And were is that line between being prepared and a survivalist nut?

Live on the northern edge of the outage in south OC. Power came back on around 11 up here. Got out the lanterns, but that's about it. Didn't even bother firing up the fridge in the truck. Based on original estimates of sometime today for restoration, I knew leaving the fridge/freezer closed would be my best option last night.

The new buzz word for this "Prepper".....I'm good with that.

I'm posting late here but I wanted to share the fun I had with this. I also learned a lesson so.. there's that too. I pulled out a 7K Generac only to find the petcock seal was toast. Easy fix and then on to filling it up. Out of 7 nato cans I keep full for just this type of event, only one was full. one. I had plenty of water, dry goods, soup and kibble for the dog in the pantry but not enough fuel. I remember pouring the cans into the 80 so I could refill with fresh but never got around to the refill part. Anyway, I got the generator fired up, both fridges plugged in and then threw a cord over the fence so the neighbor could add his fridge. I was eyeballing the '77 40 I'm storing for a friend knowing that there is a full tank of gas in it. Just about the time the generator was down to a half hour of run time left, power was restored. I even broke out two antique petromax lanterns that can run on kero.. which I have plenty of oddly enough..

I always keep a hard line phone setup at the house....it should be a part of everyones emergency prep plan.
