No K02s in stock nationwide, alternatives?

Hello mud world,

I know this subject has been beat to death, and yes I have searched I went in to buy 5 new 315/75/16 tires today for freshly powder coated rims and was shocked to learn they are of stock with none being produced until the very end of January.

Problem is I am likely leaving on a Baja trip before then and just did a 4-inch lift to fit 35s. I need an all-terrain as I drive through the snow to ski on the weekends and drive my truck on fire roads all week at work (often in terrible mud conditions). Of course there are lots of highway miles in between. We have 6 trucks at work that run the K02s and they have been great but are there comparable or better options?

Yeah I know this is an annoying thread but I have a bit of a different use case. I really need the snow performance. Was curious about people's experience with wintery roads and pounding trails.

I've never had KO2s, but the snow performance seems to be one of the best things going for the Duratracs between the two. I am very happy with mine in the snow.

Duratracs are considered by most to be quite good in the snow and good for most conditions, only drawback being puncture-prone sidewalls. They are "mountain snowflake" rated, whatever that means

I would also look at the Falken Wildpeak at3w. Much cheaper than ko2 or duratracs and many happy campers with this tire.

I've got 315 Pro Comp AT Sports and have not been let down under any condition--snow, ice, rocks, light mud, general beating. I know Pro Comp doesn't have a reputation for being a top tier tire, but they have been quite good and were very affordable.

I heard that duratracs are great but mad I love having sidewall protection. Lots of sharp cactus needles in Baja

Perhaps go with a slightly smaller (or larger) size if its in stock...

Try the Goodyear MTR with Kevlar.
It’s a hybrid of an MT & AT and has a Kevlar reinforced sidewall for the Baja cactus.
It’s most likely in stock too.

I like my new Mickey Thompson ATZ P3 so far and chose them over the K02’s since they were a little more aggressive. I wouldn’t say they’re great in the snow but no bad for a wide print. Very smooth on the highway so far.

Found a mud member who had a set of 4 brand new K02s but never mounted them. Going to go that route. I have the BFGs of 4 works trucks and we have never had a flat.

General's grabbers are almost the same tread pattern as the K02s.
Ive heard outstanding things about the Falkens at3ws as well.

Good to hear you found your solution. An alternative if ever needed would be to see if you could get the tire in a 35x12.5x16 it's the same diameter just 0.1 inches wider.

Tire measurements OEM to OEM is not an exact science unfortunately. Kinda like buying jeans.

I was in the same boat and went with Toyo Open Country AT 2’s. The 315 size is there “Xtreme” tread and is a little more aggressive.

The OP asked if there was a comprable or better option than an currently unavailable AT tire for a trip to Baja. He wanted something that is good in mud and snow. He also wanted something with better sidewall protection for the fauna of Baja.
The MTR with Kevlar is mix of AT and MT treads, hence the hybrid comment. A hybrid of the two, nothing more. It is good all around tire in the sand, mud, and snow while also performing well on the highway.
The statement that it’s not your tire of choice is your opinion but my experience is that it performs well in the snow and provides plenty of traction. Ice is another story for any tire.
It’s a tire that fit the OPs requirements and provided another option that he solicited. Heck, I bought the tires for the same reasons, to run between Baja and the mountains.
