Figured I would change plugs in the ol 2F.
pretty sure that I installed them when I did head work in dec of 2017....around 40k miles ago. They've been out before and have had the gap adjusted at least once.
Overall I think that tell a decent story about the current running conditions of this 40something year old engine built from a 1930s design.
I've always been a "fan" of ngk plugs...but decided to mix it up with dense plugs this round...the choice being w16EPR-U...seems the w16s are not as easy to find as w14s.

those plugs look like your engine has been running hot. the buildup on the ground strap is certainly interesting.

no.
probably oil
oil leaking past the guide seals normally makes the plugs look blackish, wet/fouled and very different from how yours look. If I were a gambling man I would put a dollar on the existence of a lean condition. poor fuel pressure, vac leak, clogged jets...

poor fuel pressure, vac leak, clogged jets...

i can assure you it's none of the above..
it has a carb
it's pulling 19"..almost 20"
the way it pulls, i doubt clogged jets

it sees a fair amount of highway driving.

highway driving... so you are probably running hot. weak radiator cap, poor coolant mixture/condition, over advanced timing are all possibilities as well. anyway, just trying to help, the ground strap build up is not ideal no matter how you look at it.

Factory standard Resister or NON-resister plug service interval is no longer then 30K , i do all my Resisters @15K with my gear oil's and pcv air filter ETC ...

pushing 30K+ is .....well

yeah i'm not seeing a lean problem, in person they are way more tan than what the pix are showing...i played with jetting and trust me when i say i didnt jet it for economy. they really appear to be showing the rich idle blackness.

I was thinking that it looks much like the deposits, particularly, on the exhaust valves. Two of my heads had valves that look like that. I wonder if it has something to do with rust in the gas or sludge in the oil?

i've always run a cooler spec plug sorts thinking the deposits are from them not completely reaching the self cleaning temp often enough.
