Got some work done while waiting for the block to be completed. Staring through the window of the sandblast cabinet. I did "drink the kool-aid" and invested in the Eastwood "dual voltage" powder coating gun. I knew I'd being going through cases of primer and flat black paint in cans so I looked for a reasonable oven on CL, with $80 investment in the oven, away we go...

Totally screwed the valve cover up. To start, it doesn't fit in the oven, I have to shove it up in the corner and have it resting on a piece of steel so it doesn't rest on the heating element. Long story short, I dropped it when I tried to get it out of the oven. Oh well...

Then, I get the call to come pick up the block. Still waiting on the cam to come back from CA, getting a re-grind. Cleaned, didn't need to have it "decked", just bored out to 1.00 mm over, installed the new cam bearings, freeze plugs, polished the crank and away I go.

I'll get it back on the stand tomorrow so I can have a Christmas project...

Looking good Jerry. Powdercoating looks pretty cool.

Yeah, but it's all laying on shelves right now...

Thanks, it's the quality time I get to spend, staring through blast cabinet glass...

don't worry, it's not the first time those parts have been on a shef, they all started there some 33+ years ago.

Yeah, let me know when you want to start horse trading. I've got just about everything stripped down off the project 40, and need to either take some stuff for blasting, set up my own, or spend a lot of time with you!

Getting local quotes is what prompted me to set myself up. And, like everything else, its all about the prep. That's what we pay for getting it done by professionals.

I could use some help picking up a frame from RK so I'm sure we can work something out...

Ah I was thinking about getting that from him, just so it didn't go to the scrapyard.. Good thing you got it..

Let me know...

I got busy with the rebuilding of the engine today. I've had all the stuff but had to put together all the Christmas gifts for the family.

I got it back, cleaned it up and painted it to match the head. Mounting it to the stand and I made the modifications to the arms so I didn't have any clearance issues...

First thing I had to clear up was the end cap with the buggered up gasket surface. I took one of my polishing stones and tried to clean it up. I was able to clean it up well but for two deep gouges. I wasn't comfortable modifying the profile enough for them to disappear. I mostly focused on the edges so they were nice and square. I can't imagine what happened other than abuse somewhere in this engine's life.

Then, to the main bearings, crank and end caps. Pretty straight forward but for the stupid thrust washer. I swear it dropped out 5 times before I used a dab of grease to hold it in place while I dropped the crank into its snug, fresh home...

Tomorrow, I'll get the pistons ready and installed, I hope...

At least that is what my engine shop teacher called it. He was waaaaaaay old school. I watched him tune mechanical fuel injection on a chevy. The guy had a zen thing going on with motors.
