Maybe i nee to talk the wife into one for mine. I will need a huge one though.

Jerry, you comin down ?

I'm planning on at least one day, likely Sat. My youngest is taking the SAT Sat morning while the wife is returning from a business trip.

I'm wondering if a "tools list" might be a good idea. I know you are well stocked but one can never have enough tools. And, can I bring the pooch?

Finally got back to work on my project. Spent the day degreasing, sandblasting and powder coating parts. The "oil cooler" was particularly nasty and I found out why...

What do you think, need a new one?

The question is...will this be the piece of unobtainium that will throw the project into a stall. I know I can get a NEW one from Fred Anderson but I don't want to pay that pretty penny for it.

Why is it that nobody rigs up an "real" oil cooler? This is no restoration, resto-mod at best. There has to be a relatively simple way to pipe in a decent oil cooler instead.

Oh well, off to the for sale section to see what I can find...

One just went up on Mud and sold before I could link the link. but was 45 and looked just like yours but from an mid 70's 2f. Did I see you say you were lookin for a post 85? Was there an upgrade?

oh and when do you start the rear steer? and where do you think this guys been hiding? its in NC

I can't see the video cuz i'm at work but is this the rock crawling 45 that was in CRAWL magazine about 3 years ago?

That thing was awesome.

He actually found it abandoned in the forest somewhere in NC if I remember the story right, and finally after 6 months of seeing it yanked it out of there. I think he had to replace just about everythig on it and wasn't interested in a resto. If I had a 45 that is what I would do to it.

Ok now I can see the video I see it isn't the one I was thinking about.

Little more work on the engine today. Just plugging and chugging away. Got the bottom end buttoned up, new timing gears and re-ground cam thrown into the mix. Just a few pics to show the progress...

More sandblasting and powder coating tomorrow, pulley's, water pump, thermostat housing so I can finish with the front of the engine...

Hope you postioned the oil squirter the right way and put something on to insure it stays put.

Other than that it is coming along nicely. Wish i had time for mine right now but am trying to clear another acre or 2 for a pasture.

Thanks for making sure I checked that, its pointed right at the gears, I didn't remove it and its staked in place. I didn't see any reason to mess with it, I just blew some air through it and bolted it on.

Found some time to work on it this week, not fast, just plugging away. Got the head on and torqued down with the OEM gasket. Just kept taking things off the shelf and bolting them in place, having a mix of two FSM's to follow.

But, its coming along and starting to look like an engine again...

Very Very cool Jerry. Great work and it shows, cant wait to see it all together.

Thats a buddy of mine Aaron, he also had the Orange Cruiser clipped buggy with Road Closed sign on top, was on the cover of Petersons a few years back. This thing is awesome. Rocks, 47 LTB's, warmed up 6.0l, doubler, etc. ive ridden in it, its heavy but still has major balls.

I think AL is corrct it was ROUGH when he got it, he really did a good job bringing it back to life as a beast. :smokin:

This Aaron from 4wp???

Coming together Jerry, looks good, I like the powder. Maybe I'll "let" you coat my motor:D

Brick by brick Wait till ya get to wiring everything.

haha no. He lives in Lake Lure, builds log homes for a living.

Yeah i didn't think aaron had one of those..... next time you're heading up to see this guy drop me a line.

back to my build...

I adjusted the valves and emptied the "ready" shelf. I just put the intake on to make sure it fits and get a measurement to verify that it isn't too tall to fit under the hood.

Now it comes down to the small stuff that will actually get it running.

Intake and exhaust manifolds powder coated with "high temp" from Eastwood...
