Thanks and yes Darin, the head will get done. I don't know the previous history so it's worth it to me to have it gone through.

I can't "feel" the scratches and the flash makes them stand out more than the garage lights...

I spent this morning getting the donor head ready for all the necessary work. Since I don't know the history of it, I'll be relying on the machine shop for their advise. I called the T.Hoff in Durham and I guess their "retail" has moved to the Raleigh store but they still do the machine work there.

I'll be dropping it off tomorrow for the once-over. Here are the pics before it goes...

Plugs, 1-6 from left to right. All look similar, heavy build up, not a clean running engine...

engine side, valves all look similar...

A few ports has some nice build-up...

Intake/exhaust ports, again, all look similar, nothing alarming...

Top end, found some pretty thick sludge between cylinders 4-5...

doesn't look too alarming for an old engine, ive seen alot worse on some less than 100k mile engines. Granted they were running like s*** at the time

He is right. Alot of that is due to lack of oil chages on time. I have pulled some valve covers and was not too sure i really pulled the cover off. Looked like it was still on if you know what i mean.

Change the oil ???? What for ????

Thanks for the feedback. I dropped it off today, rationalizing driving the FJC instead the motorcycle due to the weather warnings. Not sure how well the bike would do in a tornado...

I hear ya. How much you going to drive this thing a year ?

And the head would fit on your bike ????

My record is driving all but 5 days in '06/07 back and forth to UNC-CH on my first BMW. I don't mind wet or cold, it's the combo that gets me concerned.

I figured I'd strap it across the passenger seat and to the side cases if it weren't so grungy. Maybe I'll give it a ride home once it's all cleaned up...

Me and the wife picked up some stuff from Tractor supply one day on my bike. People were looking. I love it though when i go out on it for a camping trip and people just stare at my tent straped across the front.

And i was asking how far much you were going to drive the 45 each year you figure.

Jerry,
Don't forget that I still have your flanges if you still want them.

How does this weekend look for you. If the 4x4 bumpers come in, I may be connecting with Darin or just looking for an excuse for a nice ride on the bike.

But, yes, I need to relieve you of having to store them...

Got the time to get the oil pan off. Looks good to me but for the area where it was leaking. Apparently, someone decided to use some force to release the oil pan...

In another thread on the 2F-E projects, the subject of piston "drop-out" went on. This is how much is in this engine...

Interesting stampings...

No wonder it was leaking, gotta find a way to fix that...

Heck, i have used a screwdriver / hammer before on these and never did anything like that. A little extra black stuff should take care of that though. I should think.

I agree, gotta love the "black stuff"

lol

I've seen worse.... wouldn't worry about it too much.

Jerry how much power to the 2FE's make anyway... can't remember.

Very strange to say the least. Can not tell on the pics how deep those are but if you think they are too deep then go ahead and get another cap. Should be able to but those still, Maybe ?? If not someone should have a good used one laying around. I do not right now but got an entire 2F here, that did run but had rod knock.
