Hey!

I've been a YT member for about a year and I'm just making the transition since our club is moving to the IH8MUD board.

I've purchased a 1966 FJ45 Wagon from Australia that needs some help but was a great deal. It was originally an Australian military vehicle that was imported by the government. The Aussies apparently didn't import these 45's that year. Obviously it never saw any combat. I'm going to restore it on a very limited budget so I'll be asking all sorts of questions. Parts and technical info will be a huge help.

My eBay name is DuxburyClassics so some of you may have seen some of the cruisers I've imported. It's a hobby gone mad but I get to drive different cruisers all the time and I meet loads of interesting people!

Anyone with a 45 wagon that can give me some pointers or know of some good parts places. give me a shout! I'm here in MA where all the indigenous cruisers rusted out ages ago. I definitely need rims and tires (can't use the original split rims here) and interior parts. SOR.com seems like they have the most stuff for the 45 wagon.

Great to be here! BTW, I'm a wine importer in real life so if anyone needs some vino just call!!!!!!!!!!!

John, do you have much of a parts inventory? I don't think you live far from me.

Not alot of parts at the moment. I do have a nice 1978 FJ40 that I'm trying to sell for $7500 or best. Best offer is the key since I want to move it out. I need cash for the 45 project.

I live in Duxbury, MA off of Rte 3 south of Boston. Halfway between Boston and Cape Cod.

Whats wrong with splits?

If they do not know then phoey on them, is what i say.

Splits

The split rims won't pass inspection here but maybe I've been going to a good inspection station. I guess one in another town with some pimply high school kid who has never seen splits would work. I'll try it. Hell, I'd like to save the $$$$ on new rims anyway.

hey I am just south of you in Newport RI
as far as rims go if you switch from the split rims I would go with stock hub capped fj40/45/55 rims. you can pick up a used set from www.cruiserparts.net for not too much. he is in NH so you could just go pick them up, might be able to find other little odds and ends of parts that are not 45specific but share with the 40's. If you plan on running tires bigger than 33x10.5 you will need to geta wider wheel than anything toyota made stock. I have widened a set of OEM hubcapped wheels from 15x6 to 16x8 but it is expensive and the only place that does it www.Stocktonwheel.com takes a long time. if I were to do it again Stockton has some nice heavy duty steel wheels that are very similar to the spit rim look and they will paint them or caot then however you like.
if you are not exactly sure what wheels I am talking about check out my fj45lv build thread in the 45 section called 'Wilma' I believ on page 5 or 6 i have some good shots of the wheels I will be using.
cheers Jason

Thanks for the info. The guys at cruiserparts.net are great. I sold a 45 pickup to them a few months ago. great to deal with. I'll ask them about the rims.

My 45 wagon arrived in the port of Baltimore today and is in USDA lockdown for a few days (standard stuff) It should be in the driveway a week from today. I know it needs tailgate hinges...any idea on where to find them?

I'm getting the paint and body done in Warwick, RI. A friend's uncle works out of his house and does one vehicle at a time. Works cheap and is very thorough, He apparently owned a bodyshop for ages and now is in semi-retirement. Can't wait. I'll get his number for you if needed.

I'd love to come down and check out the 45. I have a 40 I'm trying to sell if you know anyone. Listed for $7200 but I'd take $5K.

I'll put pics up the day it gets here. Delivery has been delayed a day due to Ford's funeral and the gov't taking an extra day off. Gov't cheese never tasted so good.....

Getting anxious. I've ordered Roundeye headlights, I have the paint/bodwork guy scheduled for 2 weeks from now. Just sold my FJ40 so I have some fun cash to play with!

i lived in mass...never had a problem with my splits...iwould ask to see in writting were it says that they are illegal...find it hard to believe. but mass hole come up with some dumb A%$ stuff to complain about.

Pics should be up Friday hopefully! Can't wait. I haven't seen the 45 in-person yet so I have my fingers crossed. The pics from AU looked good but you never know. I've been surprised by having a much better and a much worse toyota show up in my driveway when I buy these from Australia.

This one better be a good one!
