i want to do an axel swap for one with disk breaks ive found a fj 60 axel that is cut and turned set up for high steer with a hydro assist. i want to know if its even possible to put this in my 40 with the 2f drive train

my rig is a 72 fj40 soa with saganaw on 35's, 2f motor with 4 speed and sm420 transfercase

very possible, you would want the rear axle also. Not a bolt in but not terrible fabbing either. Should be several write ups in the tech links

this may be a stupid question but why do i need a 60 in the rear as well?
and im having trouble finding those tech threads about swaping 60 axels into my 40

Axles are 3" wider so you need both or maybe can get by with just spacers on rear

You could just do a knuckle swap.... and take the knuckles off of that axle - or another axle for that matter... I'm finishing mine up right now - used Guppies thread as reference...
