I especially like the way you followed the line of the rear wheel well. I imagine getting that bend radius would be much easier with a tubing roller, but you did a great job.

Thanks a lot Douglas. I actually did that rear radius and combo bend into the slider in ONE piece on the first try!! I was siked. It took me about 3 hrs to do that one piece. Bend a few and check method. I hope to be able to do the other side in one try too.

Overall the JD3 tube bender is not a bad tool to work with and figure out. Just have to really consintrate...hard. This is/was my first project ever using a tubing bender. I am a contractor by trade and see angles and such in my sleep so that gave me a little advantage I believe. I did not use any angle finders or any templates for this project. Just marked centers down the hole tube I was working on and eyeballed everything. I hope to continue using the bender over the years to come and learn more tricks and time efficiency.

Looks crazy good. You need an ARB roof rack and snorkel to round out the urban assault vehicle look. :grinpimp:

Hammer down.

Hammer down.

HAHAHA. guy taking video was funny. He actually hammered down to hard later on in the day and blew a 1 inch hole in the side of a 3.4L engine in his 00 Runner.

Well I finished the last side this weekend (pass rear) Now I still have to build the removable rear quarter panel protection. I have a plan for what I am going to do. So for it being a "second" side" on the rear I thought I would shave off some time but that didn't happen. Still took me 20 hrs. I struggled on the large bend piece. I did it in one shot and all one piece. Wrapping the rear bumper wing went quicker than the driv. side.

Overall I am happy with how it came out. It looks real aggressive. It is very strong considering the spans of the tube. I am confident it will take some abuse. Maybe not a full weight monster hit but really what does. I will be doing some more gusseting on the sliders where the tubing connects.

Total of 65 hrs. labor. Not including any running around for materails, etc.

I think I will get some wheel spacers to get the tires somewhat flush with the outside of tube.

So I felt like I finished after building the rear arches and bumper wings but....Not quite yet. I started on the bolt on quarter panel protection today. I got the driver side all done and half the pass. I will be connected the two sides with a bar they goes across the back. Both on hinge pins. These pieces will be used just when I go wheeling

Some bad pics. One of my main lights in the shop s*** the bed.

Finished up the pass side today. Got the cross section piece bent. Just have to finalize on how I want to connect the ends. Also picked up a bunch of gussets for the sliders. I'm in the home stretch.

I really like how this came out. I need to put this on my next years' list... this year is FULL for me!

Thanks cruiseorlando. I can't wait to see how they hold up in the trail and also see if they keep my rear quarters straight. Was sick of contstant rear quarter damage.

I see you busy with some more fun things....marlin gears and 5.29's Thats sweet. That's some big money right there. Only reason why I haven't done those two mods. HAHA maybe next yr.

I finished up my tube project today. I built the crossmember to attach both rear quarter protection. it turned ok well. It feels very strong. expecially when pushing from back to front. So a total of 80ish hours all said and done. I am super amped. Can't wait to see how it holds up on the trail. The rear section installs and un installs in just minutes.

Check out my finish pics

Cool. I like it.

^^^^^Thanks. I am digging it. I remember being nervous when I first started to build that it would make the 80 look gaudy. But it looks clean. From 15 ft. away the tube blends right in. Most ppl have been like "what tube" until they get right up to the truck.

Very nice! I'm impressed. Going to be using these pics and ideas for my project next month. Very well done.

Thanks man. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Any pictures of the new tube work action?

All done with the project. All completed pics posted above.
Finished up the rear quarter bolt on protection when I got back from AZ. Sure miss that weather!!

Haha I want to see it in action too!! Not much wheeling going on right now. Unless your into shear ice challenges. Should all be melted by the end of the month....I hope. OH, and Phil thanks for the weather link...rub it in some more. We are lucky for a weather cast like that in the summer.

Here is an updated pic. I picked up some 37x12.5x17 BFG Krawler blues on TrailRated Beadlock aluminum. 5.29 gears and Longfield superset is in the mail on its way. But I have to say it's still not that bad on the backroads if you drive it right with the manual shift.
