The first side had a bit more stretch lines from the bending. On the second side I was trying to bend it more linear with the handle rather than moving it a little at a time while tourqing. I also used a TON of spray lube on the second. That seemed to help the most I believe. You can still feel where the bends are in the tube. It doesn't feel like it done by a machine like on a ARB or other.

Great job, 22 hours doesn't sound out of line at all to me. How did you get the large radius bends around the wheel well so smooth with the jd2?

I started on the rear tubes. I was planning on tubing the hole quarter, but plans changed. I bent the pieces but it looked over board on the 80.

I bent the tube to follow the wheel well from bumper end to slider. I tried to match the design of the front the best I could. So I decided I will make a hoop that will bolt on the modified rear bumper wing for when I go wheeling (4x4 labs rear). I will be putting braces on the wing to frame to stiffen it up.

Its taking some design time but I think it will work out well and look good while not wheeling. Hope to have the driver side done tomorrow except the bolt on hoop.

Would that not just fold into the fender if the weight of the truck was applied to it?
I know it's added protection but do you think it's enough with such a long lever arm?

We have that same tubing bender at work. If you had a dwg you could make all kinds of stuff on a CNC bender for about the price of the tubing. Would be a great group buy.

Yeah, it could bend into the body with a strong enough impact. Could be easily addressed. This is what Binks Fab did:

Thanks guys. I need a little push right now. Just finished the driv. side rear. today/night. I will post up some completed pics in a bit. Took me a total of 19 hrs to complete. Pass side should go a little faster since I have the design down not. In the future I will still have to fab up the hoops.

Jcardona, thanks for that pic. I didn't see that anywhere in search....Have anymore pics of that? My question is does the tube interfere with the tire while fully flexed? Looks like it would without large bump stops. I was thinking of something similar with flat stock....s***.. my project list might have just got longer, thanks.

I do believe with the weight of the truck would result in defelction how I have it. Not sure how much and what it would take. I can deflect it while fully pushing about 1/8". I did brace the wing to the frame with 3/8 flat stock also. It is damn rigid right now for how long of a span without anything. A brace in the middle and that would be perfect.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but what do you do if you have to remove the front bumper?
Cut the tube off?

^^^^ Yes, if the front or rear needs to come off I will have to cut the tube then when I reinstall use a slip joint. No biggie. Really the only thing the front bumper would come off for is to replace an engine really.

That sounds really optimistic to me, but I'm sure those arb bumpers are pretty tough.

Either way it's metal, and metal is able to be cut, welded, and shaped easily so it shouldn't be a big deal. Probably no more work than building it as a bolt on initially.

You don't need to pull the bumper to pull the engine, just fyi.

Not on an oem bumper, but you do when your arb bull bar is welded to your sliders via two fender guards.

When I built something similar for my FJC, I used some tube clamps to avoid any future cutting, just in case...

When I make a set for my FZJ80, I'll add something similar to protect the tail light lens also...

Ok, I always thought these looked a little to hardcore before, but that looks pretty sweet. In fact it makes me want to bust out my tube bender. Can you post up a broadside shot of the entire rig so we can see how it all looks together.

MTBCoach. Nice work. I like those fittings. Should have researched those before I started. Are they as strong as tube? How is your tubing holding up to hard hits? Deflection?

HalfKCruiser. I will get a pic tomorrow and post it up. Took it wheeling today but never took a pic. Unfortunatly I never rubbed or bumped any trees today so no feedback on the deflection.
