Well, I've been poking around here for 10 years or so. Always been a HUGE Toyota fan and have had many various models over the years, including a few LandCruisers as well (40, 80) and their brother, an FJ Cruiser. I decided it was time to go full JDM and when a Seattle importer told me about this 70 he was bringing in, I jumped on it.

I picked her up Friday. :)

Tech content - Nothing planned immediately aside from getting everything baselined (fluids, belts, hoses). Then I'll look at suspension refresh and newer tires/wheels. Oh, I do need to get a stereo in place that works here in the states!

I created an album here with some pics: richj11 BJ73

And here are a few for the curious:

Nice, I hope you can get rid of that bumper as well. These are slowly becoming scarce in good condition and they are worth looking after

I almost stopped in a looked at that truck a few days ago. I saw they were getting in and was right down the road at Starbucks HQ.
Those guys get some interesting stuff through there.

Congrats, looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

I checked out some posts about hacking up an ARB to fit around that PTO winch... I think this bumper will be with me for a while.

You should've stopped in to see it. It's pretty sweet. I have some things to work on, but overall it is in pretty nice shape for a 33 year old rig.

Super low KMs. Nice. It must have been close to the coast.

Can you see any wear on the gear stick knob?

Thats either very low klms or a new knob. At 280000klms mine is showing wear. You can still see the numbers but the grainy finish is gone. Also at high klms the factory steering wheel gets polished. Indicator stalks and hand brake levers are another place to look for wear as well as drivers door key hole etc.

Knob is technically incorrect for that MY BJ73.

That time period would have been a circular black, hard knob like the H41/H42F transmissions. That style knob is a later supsersession and started in the 1990's. Hence, it has been replaced.

Makes sense. It should be like the style on the transfer case shifter, I would guess? That makes me wonder about the steering wheel too now.

From what I have seen before is that the early base models ( vinyl mats ,3 spoke steering wheel) did get the old style hard knobs but the LX ( carpet, cloth seats, 2 spoke steering wheel) they got this newer style knob. Now I am talking about the European market but who is to say ? Toyota did go out of their way to make sure we can’t be sure what is was supposed to have with every cruiser different for every market

All our up-trimmed trucks have the textured pear-shaped shift knob. Our base-model BJ70 from the country club (doesn't even have power steering) has a smooth round knob. All JDM trucks.
