That radio is way cool. :)

I couldn't find a cassette to test that part, but I did plug my phone in to the MIC input then pressed the MIC button. I could hear some music, but it sounded horrible (not the music selection :) ). Played with the radio a bit, but never raised the antenna mast, just heard some static.

Cruiserdan, Unfortunately in Japan (like New Zealand), you are never more than 150 ish Kms from the salt water.

The auction report was from Sapporo, so I'm guessing it spent its life on the island of Hokkaido, which is about 175 x 175 miles. Then it somehow got shipped down to Nagoya to get loaded on the RORO.

In two pages of post, no one has mentioned the coolest of all knobs. :)

Connected to an auto instantly disqualifies it as "cool" :flipoff2:

WTH, I'll join in a conversation with a bunch of dudes talking about their knobs... :D
FWIW the cdn spec BJ70s had the pear shaped knob, so as early as '85. I think every jdm BJ74 I've seen up here has as well. The ones we see are almost all LX-spec, so not many lower spec rigs to go by. It would have been a surprise to me to see an old-style round knob on a 70.

Sounds like the bottom line is that I need a "pear shaped knob" to be cool.

G'Day Fella's,

My Dumb Question for the day (on-line at least).
In the attached image, what is the third lever? The one (with "On and "Off" on the top of it), to the left of the gear box lever?

See below, for my second Dumb Question for the day!

D'oh!

Looking back through pics of my FJ73, it had the black knob. The parts diagram seems to be saying you get the soft knob with the urethane(soft) steering wheel. The soft knob was also used on the Corrolla, Chaser Cressida and a whole heap of other Toyotas from 1979. I seem to remember a company HJ45 I used to drive also had the soft knob and according to the parts diagram the JDM 42 and 46 series had them.
So what are you, soft knob or hard knob:hmm::grinpimp:

Hey Rich, just picked up a BJ74 a few months ago and I’m just down the road in Tacoma. I was thinking about going out to Tahuya in the next few weeks or so if you want to meet up.

Back when I actually had rigs that I took out on the trail, Tahuya was my kingdom! :)

It looks like mine will be in the garage for a bit getting some things done, but I'd definitely be interested in meeting up and comparing notes some time.

My turn for a dumb question: what is the purpose of that front bumper?
