New (to me) 92 & documenting my build thread

First, I want to extend a thank you to Summit Cruisers for all of his guidance. Looks like I've got my hands full and an empty wallet ahead...

So, she's a 1 owner 1992 FJ80 with cloth interior & towing package. Oil & ATF look super good, as well as coolant & power steering fluid.

She does have several leaks, notably in what looks to be rear main seal, speed sensor?, T-case, and a front engine oil leak i cannot find.

Steering is pretty loose, and brakes are down right scary (maybe because my daily is an IS350?).

The valves haven't been adjusted in Lord knows how long. There's also an annoying exhaust leak.

The Radio lights up and displays a station but no sound comes through the speakers. Rear windows don't work, passenger rolls down but not up.

AC works, cooling system works, fan clutch is tight, interior is immaculate.

Please evaluate my maintenance plans & feel free to chime in

Distributor, plugs & wires are new. No change now, will order parts.

Oil & ATF are clean, Will drain & Change anyway to est a baseline.

Coolant flush & refill with Toyota red & 50% H2O mixture.

Replace:

U joints (slack in drivetrain when I let off on gas)
Alternator (beefier unit - open to suggestions)
Shocks
All front end parts & rebuild BIRFs
brakes - rotors & pads as well as rear shoes (100 series pads fit w/o modifications???)
Tires - Bridgestone dueler revos
New paint
Speakers

Planned Mods:

Front & rear flood lighting - this truck is primarily used for hunting & fishing (kayak fishing in Galveston Island)

Yakima rack for 2 kayaks (purchased awaiting install)

CB radio

Custom gun rack for 2 AR15's (front) & 3 long rifles

Fishing pole mount on quick disconnect for surf fishing.

On-board air & water

Roof top tent for extending camping on hunting & fishing trips.

At the deer "camp" first day of ownership!

She hauled 2 guys and a lot of gear about 100 miles like a champ. carried my tree stand and feeder from the cabin to the shooting lane - off road adventure #1

Unfortunately we didn't see any deer or hogs. Sad b/c I still have tags to fill... This winter has been rough bc there are so many acorns on the ground.

Well, Merry Christmas everyone, look forward to your guidance in the project.

Thank you for allowing me to become part of your community... hopefully one day some of us can hunt, fish, or wheel!

First project, bedliner the ugly bumper, oil change, ATF change

Waste no time...

wobble / shimmy

Forgot to mention, there's significant wobble in the front end but not until I hit 60mph.

Steering damper?

Or possible loose steering box preload which is simple to adjust with a 17mm wrench if you have a looooong flat tip screwdriver

Exhaust recommendation:
I've spent a butt-load of cash on exhaust on my 92 over the last 5 years (2 cats, 4 trips to Midas for patches). I will soon be buying the whole system from emspowered.com for around $1100. The ems one is solidly attached to the frame with flex-accordian things near the engine manifold. I wish I'd have done this before I spent around $1300 over 5 years on fixes and don't want you to make the same mistake.

Welcome aboard and the slow lane! If you have not checked out Jon Held's site you should do so asap. He has a lot of great info there. Also if you have not purchased a FSM you should make that number one priority. I have had my 92' for nearly three years and so far I have done the following:

OME suspension/dampner
33" BFG AT w/steel wheels
EMSpowered exhaust
new starter
new alternator
plugs,wires, dis cap/o-ring
fan clutch mod w/10K diff fluid
new G31 battery
new +/- battery cables
all fluids changed
New Thermostat
all new OEM brakes
valves adjusted
desmogged
On-board air systems (york) in process

I am noob myself so may be a case of blind leading the blind but I am willing to help so let me know if I can do so. I live in New Braunfels and have access to both Guadelupe/Comal river so come on by for a float sometime.

Waste no time...
