Hey all, 2 weeks ago I picked up a 2010 gx460 with 130k miles and an impeccible service record. Today while I was driving home (had just got off the highway which I was on for around 3 miles) my check engine light came on as well as the traction control light and the 4 LO light started flashing. I read codes on a scanner I have and found P2714. Light research in this forum and others has pointed me in the direction of the transmission, which I am not at all aquanited too.

I know the transmission fluid was flushed WITHOUT a filter replacement a few weeks before I bought it, and I have been driving the car very very lightly getting around 17.5 mpg city over the past 2 weeks.

What should my first step diagnositcally be? Any responses are very appreciated. Thank you all!

@Acrad you have some phenomenal responses on this forum, if you have any insight for me id love to hear it.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any silver bullet and replacement or rebuild is often the outcome.

Have you looked through some of the other threads here?

Transmission fluid flush could have been due to CELs triggers associated with the transmission, especially if it was at 134K on the original transmission fluid (which would be indicated either way by service records). Unfortunately there are a number of folks on here reporting issues on GX460 A760F transmissions. Fluid change is usually the first thing recommended when they start acting up, however if the old fluid and transmission were already damaged, a fluid change won't help it (fluid changes are preventative maintenance). Please realize this is speculation on my part, but it might be more than a simple coincidence that 1) the fluid was flushed just before it was sold and 2) it started acting up right after you bought it (i.e., P.O. might have realized the trans was near the end and unloaded the GX).

Since you just picked it up so recently it might be worth 1) seeing what kind of recourse you have with the seller/dealer via their warranty or state law and/or 2) taking it to a reputable transmission shop or Toyota/Lexus dealer for a proper diagnosis.

Have the codes cleared, have you been able to clear the codes? If so, has it happened again?
