Hello everyone.

I hope I'm doing this correctly! I have a 1989 FJ62 Land Cruiser that I bought in 2021. My buddy Geoff owned Blue Ox Overland in Colorado and rented a fleet of four out. After COVID, he decided to downsize and I put my hand up immediately. Had about 180k at the time, give or take, and I now have it close to 200k. It came with CCOT lift kit, some body restoration, 31" GFG RT tires, a custom rooftop rack, sunshade, a tent, ARB bull bar and I'm probably forgetting more.

Since I bought it, I've been learning a lot about wrenching and wrestling this beast. In 2022, I slammed into a Ford Expedition that pulled out in front of me in Sedona. The ARB bull bar might have saved my life, along with my wife and dog, but didn't prevent us from blasting a rock on the side of the road and busting one of the BFG RT's. Gladly, all I needed to do was back out in 4L and put my spare on. But BFG discontinued the RT's, so I had a choice. I decided to upgrade to 33" BFG AT KO2s with new 15x10.5 steel wheels. If anyone needs a set of five OEM 15x9 (I think 9 is correct), I got them in my yard.

I've done a bunch of work. New heavy-duty OME rear leaf springs, since my wife was loading down the back with too much stuff. Gave me a ton more clearance in the back. Had a busted air hose into the engine, easy fix. Replaced the front lockers, since one was busted. New front brakes (at a shop). New LED headlights that were made for old Chevy's but fit the rig perfect. E-brake fix. Still have the old tractor in-line 6, no upgrades there. I'm a slow mechanic! Oil pan probably needs replacing, along with some other stuff I'll get to soon.

Last November, I was in Hanksville and busted my master control switch. Replaced it today with a new part, but my passenger front door still not working (all others now work again). Any advice on how to diagnose the issue? Maybe just replace the regulator and motor?

Pix of this truck? I may have sold an FJ62 to Geoff...

In Great Sands, Medano Pass. I also had the collision center take the old chrome in the front and paint it black, when I had the Sedona accident.

Great photos - gotta love 'old man gold' (same as mine).

The truck I sold was blue/gray and had rain gutter damage from a rack.

Before going to the expense and hassle of replacing those parts, check for voltage at various points on the circuit that feeds the front passenger window motor. All of the wires for the windows and power locks, etc. have been subjected to 40 years of the door opening and closing, so it's possible that there's a broken wire in the harness somewhere. It could also be a grounding issue.

[Edit: if you have a multimeter, you could also check for continuity between the wires in the passenger door and the master switch. That might help to diagnose a broken wire]

Do you have a copy of the factory service manual? In the back of the Chassis and Body manual is a full set of wiring diagrams. The wiring for the power windows is pretty complicated, but the diagrams will at least tell you which color wires to investigate.

I do have the FSM. Note: neither master control or passenger switch were working. I took down the door trim and tested the passenger door switch with the multimeter, which wasn't a problem. Checking the wiring switch to the motor required taking the whole darn thing apart, and I wasn't getting continuity on the wiring switch to the motor with the car on. So my guess is that the wiring to the motor is the issue. I'm going to test the motor this afternoon separately.

Interesting I haven't seen the gamiviti rack installed the other way around like that. It works. I have the same rack.

Very nice, someone will take them. Those would be my preferred wheels if I still owned a 60 series. You could list these FS n the MUD classifieds. I believe the size is 15x7.

I changed it around to put more weight in the middle with the tent. I was having a doodle-bugging problem (more clearance in front than rear) before I put the bigger leaf springs on. I don't love it around corners and might switch it back up.

Yes, I think you are correct on 15x7. It was late when I posted. They were "too small" to put 33" BFG ATs according to a big box tire shop not to be named. Thanks for the tip, I think someone will want them.

Motor is completely dead. I did the battery hookup trick with the alligator clips. Spun slowly for three seconds and died. Just ordered one for $100 plus shipping. Keeping the regulator, think it just needs more grease.

I just talked to Geoff. You definitely sold him "Gray". He still has it, along with "Red" and "Blue". I think Gray is up at his farm in Wisconsin now, Blue is still in Denver, not sure about Red but probably in Wisconsin.

I also like strapping stuff in the back vs. the front (like extra gas or a shovel). Either way is good with me overall.

So, I replaced the passenger window motor with a Corolla one, greased up the regulator. Did a bunch of multimeter testing that was a little confusing. The motor would go up but not down when testing. Got the regulator and motor back in and window aligned (felt like five hours). Once everything back in place, passenger window still not working. Realized a few days later that the master control passenger up button would make the drivers window go up. Got busy with work, revisited last week. The ew master control switch I bought wasn’t wired the same as the old one. Rewire the harness (move the blue wire) and everything works!!!
