test run complete. can back in one piece
recap.
everything works great still gotta bleed the brakes but they are waaaay better than before.
first carnage was the muffler i knew it was gonna happen but just didnt really care. i pivoted off it and then by the time i got back to the trailer it was pretty mangled. gonna have to beat it back down so it doesn't rattle on the floor. also snapped my rear winch cable trying to pull the rear end up over a rock, my fault. but other than that no carnage. got stuck twice but everything works great.
just gotta bleed the brakes and get some longer u bolts and splice up my winch cable out back.
try to see if i can get my cooling system to do it's thang better

it handles WAAAAAY better than before super stable feels very predictable

Seems like the slot would allow it to shift over time.Thats why I asked.

there is a centerpin and torqued down u bolts that hold it in place. the original hole was a good deal bigger than the center pin.
should be fine

sooo guess what i found today

i noticed before the shakedown run i had almost some slop in the rear but didn't think anything of it. well i deceided to pull the cover and see whats up and plate the cover up and that is what i found. the previous owner had used bolts as filler when he welded the spidergears up and of course they broke. two of the bolts were at the bottom of the diff thank god they didnt chew up some teeth. every weld was broken i pulled chunks of weld out and the spider gears. looks like i'll be down for awhile getting a spool and tearing the front down to make sure it's okay.

yup i heard a weird squeeking noise coming from the back and it wasn't the u joint so i thought i'd see what was up in the diff. that and i wanted to compare diff covers to a fj60. glad i found it before the first run as i would of been in a spot htat would make it a pain to get out.

im gonna test the front the same way and if there is any slop it'll get torn down also

They don't make a spool for an LC third . Weld it up again just do it properly and it should be fine .

Muddy,
Very cool little rig there,
FWIW, Those are not fzj axles unless they are from a very early 93 production. Those are the axles out of a 91 or 92 (or again early 93) FJ80. SF and drub brakes. Not sure if it will make a difference in what you are trying to do though.
Dave

yeah it's a pre 93 80 axle. i've been looking all over and actually got to look at one in an 80 today. it has most of hte oem link brakcets still on it.
im looking around to see how involved/expensive it is to convert to full float

outer wheel bearings felt good so im gonna pull the seals and re pack them and put them back in. should have it back together tomorrow.
also got a diff cover coming and some rebuild kits for later on

NICE ...you weld that up at home ???

naw used jk's welder. i could of done it at home but im glad i went up there cuz they have a fire blanket that we wrapped it in.
my welded does really well but i wanted to make sure it was done right so it didnt explode. im 100% confident it's not going anywhere. chris beats the dog**** out of his and hasn't broken it yet.

o yeah and that junkyard behind wimberly wanted 750$ for that full floater hahahha yeah right
