 Congratulations! I just came home from 5 months in India. I only saw one landcruiser the whole time there! Where did that grill come from? Keep us posted with all the upgrades. What part of India are you in?

Tks @ cruiser pilot I'm from south India as far as grill I'm not sure where does it come from looks like a properly done grill n head lights but no idea how they did it as I procured the vehicle from auto dealer and no info about the previous owner. Planning to rebuild right from chassis as it is rotten needs proper attention to every part of the vehicle.

Are you getting the frame off?

How do you know it needs a mechanical rebuild first (right now?)
I would do the whole maintanance book first and the rust can wait a few weeks. Or does it have really bad knocks, smokes and noises because gear whining can go another 30000 km, front diff birfields grease them first, check the diff oil for leaking seal (grease in oil etc)

And the colors inside are annoying but mechanical first, drive it a bit and then make a plan.
I keep mine road worthy (licence) all year and do inbetween jobs.
With welding it was better to do it all at once because I have moved the tools in and out of the shed a million times last year.
The underside alternator seems the original one, bring it to a shop or check the alternator brushes yourself. Remove the upper one?
Remove the extra battery next to the exhoust, is that thing shielded fro the heat? If you want the extra power (camping) replace it later?
Or that extra battery can help the original battery charge? is seems a separate sytem.

If the lights work replace them when the rest is done? Ac the same, no oil leaks=great.

I was just noticing, factory rear slider window? wood grain dash insert? and what is the extra lever on the floor for on the far left- ahhhh, PTO drive lever? Yellow interior is because its got to have bright colours. In-dash inclinometer. ANd of course the ever cool highline roof.
I agree with hj 60 - clean it up first and get it running. Look for obvious leaks, etc. If you want to go back to original grill, those parts are light so shipping won't be too expensive.
I have first hand experience importing into India, it's not an easy thing. I don't know the rules for car parts.
Could you open it up from the back and take more interior shots? Does it have rear barn doors?

@ Hj60- your words gave me some boost, will upload shortly some more pict to give you all clear pict, drove the vehicle for 700+km engine is giving out lot of smoke not yet gone for compression check of the cylinders PO has Betten up the vehicle to a great extent, I'm not into frame off but frame looks rotten so needs sand blasting and proper rust proof coating at the same time rear leaf spring is almost flat which needs hammering are will go for iron man if got money. First thing want to get wiring checked with my electrician then alternator hope can be repaired, fluids already replaced service radiator etc.

Sure would like to see more pics..

@ cruiserpilot , Hj60 and who ever view the pict please do not get angry after seing the pictures will try to fix things and get to a level from where i can say i own a FJ60 sorry for the current state of the vehicle :bang::o
you can see the condition of the chassis and rear leaf so am i wrong about reparing the chassis:bang: any sugestions and comments frieds

Looks interesting. I left a plane @ Delhi for a month, it looked like that engine compartment! Just got to clean it up. 3 batteries? It even looks like storage in the tailgate. This is a unique vehicle. Like I said, I only saw one 80 series in all of N India and I travelled alot for 5 months there. Good luck getting it all up and running.

The leaves are tired but ok for now, the chassis seems ok, need more pics from below. The rust in the door is ok> it is a door :D
Blue smoke is oil, but it can go on for a long time and how much oil did you add in the 700 km? Is the headgasket ok?

Get good batteries so it is always possible to start, get new plugs (check color) and check the rotor and carb, air filter, fuel filter, tank.
(drain)
Make sure the car stays driveable, if you need a tool but it with the FJ :steer:
If you do the engine first then do not buy batteries!
The biggest pitfall for now is taking it apart and never get it fixed.
I remember a rangerover in Tanzania staying on blocks forever and I could not stand it seeying that thing rot away.
What year is it? do you wrench outside? all fluids: so how was the front diff oil, did the diff/transfer/engine oil had iron flakes or just clean oil?
does it start ok? check chassis vin number maybe this was an overland travel vehicle and it comes from england?
