I replaced the throttle cable on my 80 last night (165K miles, '93). I noticed this morning that the normal startup rattle was absent, and while driving to work no more throttle hesitation. I have already done the IAC mod to get the startup motor speed down to 1400RPM or less, but it would still rattle in the morning. I hope it's a long term fix.

The sheath looked really bad sitting on the valve cover, and occasionally the idle would stick at a higher value, especially while running AC.

Can you post a pic of exactly where it is...I think mine needs replacing...it kinda sticks. Which one is it?

From the front of the motor, it's the first cable. It has 2 small black 12mm nuts on it. You can trace it from there back to the pedal (or vice versa).

Remove 2 10mm bolts behind the acc pedal, and pull the cable through the hole into the rig (after removing the other end from the throttle body and pulling the cable housing from each holder (x3 I think)).

Scroll down to 80 series

What did that cable cost you? I was thinking about changing mine just because the sheath is coming apart.

Not cheap. I don't have the receipt in front of me, but list price is $109 according to SOR, so ~$80.

I would say that's a pretty good reason...

CJF - mostly cosmetic at this point.

On some occasion, I find myself lifting the gas pedal upward with my foot to bring the idle down a tad. I'd imagine that it'll need to be replaced in the next couple of years or so.

Thanks for letting us know of your symptoms.
