and the flat bed came, and wisked her away on Monday to the real mechanic, who will (hopefully) fix things I screwed up and do things that are beyond my ability (adjust brakes, put new rubber on ball joints).

Carlyn Dinkler has some ball joints, but Cabe Toyota suggested using boots from a 2001 Land Cruiser, which is what we are doing. I was able to pop the joints off (partially), and the joints were still good. I am having my mechanic put the boots on.

But the jury is still out as it is still at the mechanics:hhmm:

Also, if you need parts, I found a source out in Washington who is parting out a stout. Mike Guarderas at msg815@yahoo. I have 2 hubcaps, the pushbuttons, door handles, reflectors all on their merry way. Hopefully, his yard will hold on to the truck for a while before crushing it!
 
UPDATE: Visited the truck at Mostly Toyotas yesterday and she is running again!! The mechanic asked me "What do you want to work on this?" And I said "Everything!"

He discovered that it was wired for a windshield washer, and even had the spray nozzles. All I need is the bottle, motor, and line and I am in business! Going to get that from SOR once she is road worthy again.

Next week, he "puts it in the air" to adjust the drum brakes and put new rubber on the ball joints. Hopefully, it will be up for a trip to Trollholes soon so I can deliver the pile of FJ and UZJ parts I have hoarded for his shop.

The mechanic suggested I think about an electronic ignition, so I may have Marshal look at it to see if one of his wiz-bang dizzies:wrench: would work.
 
David I'm actually going to bring a few 5r carbs. I can get them new from my peeps. I thought it might be interesting to see how different the base is to the LC. If I could get it to work and jetted properly I might start selling them to the LC crown as a big window carb option.
 
Hopefully, I should be able to make it your way in about a week. (Sort of a shakedown cruise). For sure I should be roadworthy by February 16 and can come down for the build. I am wide open to changing out the carb and the dizzy if something could work. This is a pre smog truck (not even a cat!!). I will be changing out the Meineke muffler for a Flowmaster or Magnaflow next week . . . would like a little sound out of this old 1.9L 4 Cylinder.

As an aussie I have one of the first stouts imported into Australia a 1962 RK45 and a 1976 RK101, my girlfriend calls my stout obsession porn and so I am for ever researching porn.
With my 1962 I found it frustrating how little information there is about the stouts online and after near four years of doing a daily internet search enjoy such as this build and then so often no more updates, arrh.

He will be back. I know David. Most likely it's at the shop getting some things fixed. Pretty sure he is coming our way Sat.

That being said do you have any of the FSM manuals for the stout? Any PDF's I'd be willing to start a thread in my forum on mud and host all the info you or anyone has collected.
 
Ok Two Stouts, I'm back!! Not too much to report except that my mechanic has all electrical systems up and running! He found that the Wiper Motor had seized, but I have two "used" replacements on the way:

1. From Mike Bingham in San Diego; and
2. From a parts car in the State of Washington.

Total cost, about $75 for two (I'm hoping one will be good)

I hope to have the truck back tomorrow, but even if I don't, I plan on coming to Troll's for the Trailer build and bring a bunch of LC parts I've hoarded to help stock his warehouse.

Once I get it back, I plan on posting a bunch of pics of the finished product, especially for our friend down under.:grinpimp:
 
I have a complete toyota 3r 5r engine repair manual, it is more detailed than the newer 5r version and I have posted the bulk of it on the Facebook toyota toyopet stout group. Sadly I am not the most computer savvy person so things like a pdf or photos of on here are beyond me, but if you look into things like the toyota stout Wikipedia page I have annoyed those that know what they are doing and much of the second and third generation is based off my reasearch.

Two Stout - -

Our gurus stateside on Stouts are Mike Bingham at Cabe Toyota in San Diego, California, and Carlyn Dinkler in Mint Hill, North Carolina. They are both excellent sources for parts, and Carlyn has compiled a parts book for the old engines.

As to posting pics, find someone born after 1980 - - we need some pictures from down under on this thread!

Just a couple of bits of info
The RK41 (US only) originally had 7.50 14" tires on 5.5" wide rims with a 5 lug/stud 114.3mm pattern or close enough to 5.5", the transmission are a R40 and the diff centre or I think in the US 3rd member are possibly an e series with a 4.875:1 ratio (RK43 2R 1500 engine were 5.714:1) the RK40 RK41-L and RK43 are lite stout and hence the L on the US only version and the closest related is the first of hiace H10 series with a very simular frame/chassis layout but are COE
 
My 1976 RK101 had been in a shed on a farm for 28 years unused, they use 40 series cruisers brakes and K series diff centre in 6.1:1 ratio, the locally made flat load deck (tray) were to get around certain import tax and the tires were 700 15" now 205 16" which still allow the 2 ton or 1.75 metric tonne payload
 
the final stouts in australia were 1983, what brought the end of them here was annual on road cost.
when the first of hilux four wheel drives came out the stout had the same look yet cost around twice as much for registration and insurance because they were then classed as light commercials (trucks) as they had a payload of more than one metric tonne 1979-80, which prior was the equivalent of 2 ton imperial (1,750kg) brought in during metric conversion mid 1970's. so in australia the stouts had the payloads first down rated form 2 metric tonne (imperial equivalent) to 1,75 tonne mid 70's and then to 1.5 tonne 1979- 82 and then in 1983 due to poor sales it was put back up to 2 metric tonne again all because of changes in light commercial classification. our annual on road costs are done by numbers off cylinders, a four cylinder is around half the price of a V8, to go from the car ute/utility class into light commercial a payload of more than 1,000kg puts a four cylinder light commercial (truck) about a V10's on road cost in the car class and so no more stouts sold in australia

Keep coming back to this thread as I get my Stout back on the road and it interacts with its first cousin the Land Cruiser! :steer:
