Hi All,
I wanted a little more light at the back of the cruiser for reversing on bush tracks at night and in the campsite when pitching the tent/loading unloading stuff etc. I was going to cut a light into the bumper however saw a GX model that had different bumper lights to my GXL. After a bit of research ended up with a Saturday afternoon and thought I would share if anybody is interested.
1. Standard GXL bumper red reflector with no globe.
2. Buy a pair of Left and right standard GX model bumper reverse lights and dont forget to get the matching
plug.
3. Next was after market 'rear lights' switch that fits into the standard Landcruiser 200 dash and I changed over the reverse lights that can with the standard pair with 11 W 12V LED (1500LM)
4. I took the bumper off for access and to put the cabling through the body (in the red circle). The other
photo is showing how the back of the standard red reflector is bolted to the inside of bumper.
5. After running new cables up to the dash and with associated relay, fuses and switch complete as quick test and bolt up the rear bumper.
I think if you had the right tools, you probably don't need to remove the bumper only if the splash panels and if you were really excited, maybe the wiring exists. I wanted total flexibility with lights that I could turn on and off from the dash with or without the engine running or in our out of reverse.
