As far as I know I'm the first to fit one of the new '07 AVN navigations into the 80 series. I was told by crutchfield and sounddomain that it would not fit.

They were wrong, it does fit, but just barely. The rear of the AVN fits very tightly against the AC plenum behind the unit, but with some careful wiring everything fits in and the finish when the dash is reassembled is top notch.

I removed the factory amp and ran new wiring behind the glove box for the speakers. I am still using the factory speakers and the sound is still considerably cleaner. I also tapped the VSS wire that is used in the yellow-box speedo correction for pulse-speed on the AVN, and it picked it up correctly. I found the parking break switch signal wire in down in the IG2 connector in the left kick panel (it is red-white) and the AVN also senses that properly.

The one thing I am stumped on is reverse sensing. Does anybody know the proper wire to tap to send a signal to the HU that the vehicle is in reverse? If I can figure that out I am going to add a backup camera as well :D

Overall a great HU and the navigation voice speaks clearly and is easy to understand. I like it alot, other than that I paid for the bluetooth model and circuit city gave me the regular one. I need to complain to them about that, but it just includes the parrot bt adapter, so they should be able to give me that without much hassle.

Nater- I can't believe you even bothered posting without PICS!! Let's see it!

;)

Good thing they are not a vendor here, otherwise there will be another long debate on "fit" :)

How about reverse light?

LoL, hardly... it does fit no question about it; you just can't be stupid and have a rat's nest of wire clutter stuffed behind the unit. It's a cut and dry issue, they just haven't ever actually done the research (they look at spec sheets, I assume)

Reverse light is a good idea... I know the parking switch was the opposite of how I expected it to operate... when engaged the signal lead drops to 0v and when not engaged it is energized at +12v. I thought for sure the HU would interpret this backwards, but lo-it got it right!

I'll have to try and find out what wire I splice under the dash to tap the reverse lights... I'm so sick of combing through wiring diagrams for connector pin outs, etc that I don't think it will be until I'm ready to tear-down and secondskin the whole vehicle. I learned a valuable lesson in just how tight some stuff fits in the dash tonight

Pics of the navi will have to wait until tomorrow.

Its tomorrow Nate..........................

what is the mounting depth so i know what the near max is?

I have that unit in another rig and it is great. It is the same system that Toyota/Lexus use for OEM. The iPod interface is the best I have seen. It does all national forest roads, blue tooth, backup camera. It has it all.

Excellent choice You are going to love it.

Cost? And most importantly, pics? Heh.

The reverse wire should be red/blk and you can usually find it in the drivers kick or door sill on most Toyotas. Be sure to verify its function with a multi meter prior to making any connections. Good luck.

Thanks Steve, I'll have a go at hooking it up when I get my iPod adapter in the mail.

The cost was $1520 w/ the bluetooth kit, however circuit city forgot to give me that when I picked up the unit (and I didn't notice) so I think I'm going to have a fight to try and get that.

Pics soon ;)

For the love of God man, Pics!!!!

Even on mothers day, you guys get me out into my hot ass truck.... sheesh, not the best pics

Very nice. Man if I were not into 3k in repairs right now I'd be all over this for my truck.

Does it have an output for another monitor?

Yup, its got a composite video out and composite audio outs. There is also a kit for aux-in I believe.

I'm pretty sure there is an interface for the stock CD changer as well, but I didn't look into it at all.

Cool as I would need a roof mount monitor for the back seat for the kids. Thanks.

I downloaded the manuals & was looking @ install Where did you connect the speed pulse wire? Were you able to find the wire to connect it to the computer?

yeah crutchfield said it wouldent fit for me, but i was too dumb to listen, luckly. how long did the install take you? just to second what natorgator said, it is a very tight fit, you have to be careful to get everything to fit in there

Yeah, it was easy. The wire is the same red-orange wire used by the "yellow box" in the speedo correction thread. It is behind the glovebox and pretty easy to get to.

It took me about an hour and a half to install. The longest part was finding the parking break switch wire in the absolute nest down in the kick panel. I spent a solid 45 minutes before I actually looked in the right section of the EWD, and from there it was a snap.

Not a hard install, you just have to be careful and not break trim panels and force anything :D

I've been using the navigation around town just to see, and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed. It typically takes me the way I usually go, and if it doesn't it usually provides a bit quicker of a route. And the 'detail patches' that appear before a turn comes up are nicely detailed; our garmin GPSes can be a bit confusing at tangled intersections, but the eclipse nails it and provides a clear view.

I like. Now I gotta tear down and put good speakers and some sound deadening in

Excellent to hear! I have been researching stand alone GPS/Video/stereo systems. This seems like a complete solution.

In a month or so after I recover from the head gasket/power steering/cooling system repair I'll get back to this Thanks for the input.

Installed the iPod interface today and I gotta say it is great. Also, Steve was right, the reverse signal wire is red-black (pin 19 on IG2 in the left kick panel) and so I got that done as well.

As a bonus, if you remove the craptastic factory amp, the iPod interface unit snuggles nicely in the same space, and allows you to hide your iPod in the glove box.

Nice! :D
