I just wanted to take a moment and say hey to everyone. I just paid my UC dues so no flaming. My FJ60 is an 86 and is getting shipped from Arizona (land of no rust- at least most of the time. I am looking to have it gone over by a competent shop and fix all the little issues I am certain are present. I was thinking of bring it down to Urban Cruisers in Atlanta and just wanted to see what you guys thought of the shop and its reputation/quality of work. I understand they are slow and had some issues a few years ago. Oh by the way my name is Adam. I have attached some pics of my new obsession. I appreciate any help/ advice for a newb FJ owner.

Welcome to the club Adam.... that is a sweet looking 60 you have there!!! As far as Urban they do good work but I would say their reliabiltiy is a question. I would consider Iron Pig Off Road as well many here have worked with them and had great results.

Look forward to seeing you on the trails

Thank you for the compliments- As far as Urban goes- do you mean reliability as far as keeping a time schedule or with quality of work? I will call Iron Pig also- thanks for the heads up.

Urban does good quality work....... they rebuilt my 2F engine in my 40 and I couldn't be happier, but in the past they have the tendency to fall off the face of the planet leaving customers hanging; although I hear they have corrected their previous problems. However, If it were me I would go to IPOR first then Urban

what work do you need done to your 60??

If your just looking to get the vehicle "checked out" and get a list of mechanical things that need to be done, I would recommend "Mostly Toyotas" (now just "Mostlys") in Asheville. They have worked on Land Cruisers for decades and are, in my opinion, very honest and knowledgable.

Ask to speak with Ed or Laurel and tell them I sent you. 253 Biltmore Ave. (828) 253-4981

There is another person here in ATL that I have heard good things about. Peter Miriam. He's in NE Atlanta (Norcross) and is very much the perfectionist. I can dig up contact information if you are interested.

This is why I joined this group- I really appreciate your time and responses- I really am looking to have the truck gone over from top to bottom as it will be my DD. I am going to get it painted/restoed as well. Being in WNC there are not alot of options- I will call "Mostly's" today - thanks David. I had another question in regards to UC meets. I am your new resident neat freak when it comes to cars- I am planning to have my FJ back to almost like new glory and would really only want to do light wheeling- basically no risk of body damage- I know I know- I need to get a trail rig, but for now this is going to be my baby. Also I bring my family with me everywhere (wife, and 2 girls 3 and 9) and was wondering if there are ever any kids at the meets? I hope this wasnt too long.

you just need to put a huge CB antenna on the hood of the rig and a dog box in the back and you will fit right in in Sylva.

There used to be a mechanic in Sylva that worked mostly on Toyotas when i went to WCU. I'm trying to remember the name of the place, but if you were pulling out of Gradma's kitchen at the stoplight in sylva, it would be across the street.

EDIT: i think it was called supri.

Another perfectionist! You'll find plenty of company in this club.

Kids and dogs are always welcome (I have both), and we try to plan a number of events that are "expedition" or light wheeling each year. The really good news is that most of these events are in your backyard - - Cullowhee.

The last "expedition" I did, I took my 100 series and got 0 body damage. (You can probably expect scratches from branches). I just opt to do the "easy stuff." We also do "on road" adventures like the Parkway, and there is something for everyone.

This year, we are trying to plan a national forest trip where we camp, do forest service roads (gravel), fish, kayak, and mountain bike.

That is one sweet 60.
Welcome aboard. LOL...I see you have the sickness already.
(see:I'll need a trail truck comment in your post)
This club has all the fixes you'll need to feed your cravings. :grinpimp:
WARNING: it just gets worse with time and additional exposure to fellow
addicts.

Too funny- you are so right about the dog cages in the bed of local rigs. ;)

Supri used to be across from Grandma's- which is now Bogart's- much better food.

Sounds like there are plenty of events that the family can come along on, we may have to set something up at our place one day. We have plenty of room.

One if the main things we stess in UC is "Something for Everyone".

A clip from a post I did last year on another clubs forum.

"My thoughts.
It's very hard to have the something for everyone attitude. But we try. I'm always trying something new. Some stick and some don't. All clubs have issues in my book. Nobody is perfect. But I do try to have events for every type of vehicle. I consider there are 5 classes of club member. They can be any part of the 5 or all of them.

1. Classic club member. Restoring, collecting, talking about anything OEM.
2. Social club members. Willing to go to meeting as well as events.
3. Mild wheelers. Willing to go on mild trails and not interested in tearing up their junk.
4. Hard core. Extreme. Wanting to push the limits. Damage usually happens.
5. Love to camp.

Monthly meetings take care of 1&2
Help a member of the month 1,2,3,4
Expedition trips 2,3,5
Day wheeling trips 2,3,4
weekend wheeling trips 2,3,4,5
non cruiser events 1,2,3,4 (adopt a highway, golf, etc...)

52 weeks in a year

12 monthly meetings Including the annual event.
6 Help a member of the months
3 expedition trips
4 day trips
6 weekend trips
5 non cruiser events.

36 events total. And something for everyone and about 1000 less hairs in my head a month. Events and event planning is what has grown our club. Half of those events we usually don't have a huge participation. But added up monthly for all the events we have a good participation record. Something for everyone."

Thanks for the info- I feel at home already and look forward to meeting all. I will post some pics once I get my rig home.

Welcome! I thought that was a good looking cruiser, and glad to see that it's got a good home! I grew up in Franklin, so I know that area pretty good, and still have plenty of connections there. My uncle specializes in Toyotas, but mostly 4 cylinders and v6's (He used to race a 4cyl. celica at Smoky Mtn and Toccoa). I am sure he'd be able to give you a run-down on your Cruiser. You wouldn't even have to go all the way to Franklin, his shop is at the top of Cowee. If you're interested, I could give you his name and number.
