I went out wheelin with Jay, Jayson, Tom and Jeremy on sat and sat around and "slothed" on Sunday.

Today I plated the top of my new workbench with some 3/16 steel and it turned out great. Next on the cruiser is a rear brake hard line and new flex lines as well (F&R). Re attach the Fuel line and start thinkin rear bumper.

On and on we go....

Pulled the rear axle apart yesterday, spider gears looked a bit worn but not too bad otherwise. Not that it matters as everything is getting replaced anyway. Ill get the new bits in and set up a.s.a.p. I'm off to go dumpster diving for steel in town, I'm goung to try to scavange some aluminum at a buddys shop as well.

well that looks great. well done Cam

Started on the upper rear shock mount / crossmember. Worked out great with the body lift. I was able to get the angle of the shocks just where I wanted. Ill wait till the axle is on to install it but the mock up looks promising!

Jayson and I are going to tackle the rear diff on monday, once that is done the rear axle can go back home where it belongs. Man it will feel good having the back end together again.

Well its about time I posted somethinh here. Ive been busy with all kinds of different stuff but some progress has been made on the 60.

Today I grabbed some rear suspension bits (bushings, pins and shackels) from John at Radd Cruisers. He was nice enough to let me go dumpster diving in his scrap metal bin for some replacement leafs. He and I found a set of fronts that had had some newer add a leafs in them. I needed to beef my tired springs up a bit and replace one leaf that had cracked.

John took the time to share some of his cruiser wisdom with me in a quick "leaf spring 101" and then gave me the springs free of charge!! Thanks John!!

Few hours later and I have some decent springs ready to go under the 60.

John is a great guy, I'm not surprised about the service you have got from him. Very knowledgable.

Center console is BACK!!

Im got the center console and gauge pod back from the powder coaters.

Colour worked out great but the pics don't show it too well. The finish is also matte but the flash make it appear glossy. I made the lid from old front seat fabric and MDF. Tha latch is the same as Ken's and came from Capital Iron (marine) Hinges are Stainless Steel marine units and the lid tie-back is retro fitted from the old factory unit. The 2 brackets in the third pic at the bottom of the chest part hold a rear cup holder salvaged from a Silverado (big ass american cup holders)

The switches and switch plate are missing in the pics but I opted to leave the switch plate raw aluminum for some contrast. Here are a few pics.....

Sweet.

Finally got .5 of a day off so I thought I'd get some of my brake lines dealt with. I also finished installing the rear upper shock brace and tapped some holes into it for the rear brake hard line. I have moves the exhaust over to the passenger side and therefor had to move the rear brake line over to the drivers framerail.

I also have to repalce the clutch slave flex line with a longer one because of the body lift, so that is off the truck and going to Coast Ind. tomorrow along with a bunch of other stuff.

Its been a while since I posted anything, not because progress has stopped but rather I find it hard to stop and take pictures when working. Today I made a bit more of an effort. Some updates:

Exhaust is comming along well. I'm not sure Ill tig weld an exhaust again because its much more work than mig as almost all the welding has to be done on a bench. I have had the exhaust in and out so many times now I could do it with my eyes closed. On the other hand it sure is sweet and Ill never have to replace it.

Diffs are done with new bearings, 4.56:1 gears and ARB's (thanks Jay and Jayson)

When I bought my truck it had a spring over but it wasn't done all thet well so I have re done it with anti inversion shakles and poly bushings. Here is a pic of it when I got it.

Also the cut and turn wasn't the best either. The pinion was too high, caster was too much and the old perches were still there. I have stripped the housing and will get all the geometry right as well as adding gussets and proper shocks and mounts. Here are some pics of the progress so far.

Today was mock up day. I cut the knuckles yesterday with a rented pipe cutter (that I broke...Doh!!) Make sure axle tubes are good and round if you are using a pipe cutter. Some of the welds weren't flat and the pipe cutter walked and the cutting wheel cracked. Lucky for me it made it to the end of the last cut before it did.

Today I set the axle to get my pinion angle. My jig (cloned it from Jay at Radd) worked great as I was able to place the jack under the jig, holding the axle. Jacked it up into "ride height" then went angle finding. 15 degrees was the outcome. Perches at zero. Knuckles back 5.5 degrees from there.

Next I measured the distance each knuckle rotated with a micrometer via a scribe I made before turning. This ensured both knuckles had turned evenly. Then I beveled the cuts and tigged it back together.

This was a "re cut" and "re turn" so I used a tig for the knuckles. Probally overkill but seing as this was the 2nd time around I wanted it as strong as possible.
