keep in mind the ARB is made of 1/8" while the MAF is con structed of 1/4" throughout. then compare the d-ring eyelets and mounting plates. no comparision

uh huh and if you made the bumper the same size as the ARB with 1/4 plate you would need 48 more leaves up front and a winning lotto ticket to pay for gas without even having the weight of a winch...

Both a re very good bumpers but its not really oranges to oranges......

Keep in mind that a beefier bumper may not be better. In collisions, you want the bumper to crumble and absorb energy. A stouter bumper might transfer the energy to the frame, wich is a bad thing.

Anyone damaged an ARB bad? With a winch and things the weight can start to add up on the front.

I saw an arb bumper that had been in a wreck on a 60. The hoop was almost torn from the corner and the corner that got hit was pretty mangled. However, I've seen two other arbs that took the brunt of a collision that didn't seem to be too impacted.

Yes it will, the bumper mounts on the inside of the frame, where the shackle reversal mounts on the outside of the frame.

Can't find a close up of the damage but if you look closely you can see how the passenger side of the ARB is crumpled some. This was after a 8' nosedive off of the Escalator on Hell's Revenge at Moab. Most people like go up Escalator but I had to try it going down. That side of the bumper is bent back about three inches and the frame is bent up about an inch. Can't imagine what the body damage would have been like without the ARB. I agree with Lowtideride that you'd have to have some semi-sized springs up front if the ARB was made with 1/4" plate. I like the looks of the new 4+ bumper and Dave Gore's stuff is very well built but I prefer the extra coverage of the taller ARB. The extra height has saved some serious body damage more than once. It's good to have options though so we don't all look exactly alike!

Being that ARB and MAF is about the same price, I'll second the ARB

Glad to hear good feedback on it! It is pricey I know, but if you look at the material used to make it, the 4+ can stand up to more of a beating than the ARB. The thinnest material on the 4+ bumper is 1/4" plate, where the ARB's thinnest is 1/8" plate. I think they are pretty close in weight as well actually, we still have to weigh both with no packing material to see.

Of course I'm not against the ARB in any way, we just had a lot of customers asking for a very stout lower profile front bumper. You'll be happy with either.

To resurrect an old thread: It's not like you can't weld a bar assembly similar to that of an ARB to it as well.

Though it'd definately add to the weight...

I love the style of that new bumper, all my experience with 4+ has been good. However, it does lack the upper hoop which is a great deer catcher. Considering the amount of time I spent on the highway, up here in Wyoming, I think I need to go ARB. The rear 4+ bumper is freakin' sick and a must have-as soon as I have some cake.
