Noticed a puddle of fluid in my garage after letting the rig sit for a couple of weeks. Any guess what is causing this leak? It appears to be coming from an area where the transmission interfaces in with the transfer case.

T-case is further back. Looks like engine oil out of rear main seal.

Ugh.. Well it looks like it’s a major job to replace. Seems like the trans needs to be dropped in order to get to the seal. I was using synthetic Mobil 1 oil for the past 3 years. On a pinch, I had my mechanic do an oil change before HIH this year with regular oil. Then dove 2K miles for HIH and now this! Lesson learned: once you switch to synthetic, never go back! Mileage is only 156K.

Drain and refill with synthetic. Might slow the leak. Doesn’t look horrible yet - I’ve seen a lot worse. Check oil level on dipstick regularly when driving and top off as needed.

Try using at 205

Take off the inspection plate (one bolt and 30 seconds) to see if it’s actually the main seal (it’ll be nasty inside if so). I thought mine was, but it was just where the valve cover leak(s) gathered. Replaced all that fairly easily.

I removed the inspection plate and it appeared pretty clean. So this means I likely have a value cover leak? How do I go about looking for where this leak is?
