So the old ones were made of crummy carboard stuff, wrapped with cheap vynle, and had ceased holding up the rear speakers. So I built new ones! 1/2" thick plywood, leftover new carpet, a staple gun, an air powered saw, some outdoor wood sealer, a utility knife, and some self-tapping screws. It pretty much muted all the road noise in the cab, and I have rear speakers again! The bed carpet was all manner of nasty too, and I still had some extra new stuff.

Looks great! The shag is back!

Dye that carpet green and you can call your rig Chia Pet... :)

Chuh Chuh Chuh CHIA

Cool! I need to do something similar to mine. I would like to use 1/4" sheets of plastic or maybe lexan?

Shall we Shag now or Shag later? Oh, BEHAVE!;p

I expect to hear 70's porn music when looking at these picture with Barry White saying "OHHH YEEAAAHH!!" Looks good.

6x9's? Factory size? Did you use the ratty cardboard for a template? I'm not a shag fan but I think the hard plastic idea is good.

Thanks guys! It took about 3 hours to build and install. (that doesn't include wood sealer curing time) The Fj60 (Shaggin) Wagon. :D

The speakers are 4x6's. And I did use the rotten cardboard as a template, just lined up two edges on the plywood and traced it around with a pencil. Where the clips were that held it on is what I used as reference for where to pre-drill the holes for the screws. The hard part was cutting out the wood because I couldn't get my hands on a jiggsaw. I would imagine that plastic cuts the same as wood, and it would be invincible to the elements if your wheel wells are rusting out like mine are.

I have some plastic panels PO put in. They are nice, but i want storage ones from Wagongear.

Yaaa baaaaaby, yaaaa...

Neato, but how to you expect to access the rear washer bag now?

depends of course on the purpose :D , but if my cargo area had deep carpet it would be a doghair-dirt-rocks-woodsplinter-cathair-fishscale-sand-moldy-mess pretty fast.

Cant wait to see how you reupholster the seats and headliner...dont forget the spare handholds and harnesses for safety. Saftey first.
