Hey all...I've had my FJ62 for about 6 months now...250K miles but runs strong, doesn't consume oil and mpg averages 12 in mostly city driving. Loving it but concerned with gas smell especially when the weather gets hotter. The smell clears up when driving.
Ok so I've been searching Mud to figure this out...symptoms:
-Gas smell builds up when parked. Coming from rear interior 1/4 panel
-Whooosh when gas cap opened ....though not huge
- No whoosh when tank line disconnected from charcoal canister
-Line from separator to canister clear.
What I've done/inspected:
-Interior vapor separator lines look good
-Exterior vapor lines from tank to vapor manifold look ok ( I did order replacement lines but seems like a PITA to install)
- Rubber grommet on filler neck from tank to body worn out/failing . Slight smell of gas under 1/4 panel exterior
- Found used OEM canister in great shape that tests good according to FSM ( I can hear check valve moving when 10psi applied to tank check valve)
I'm out of time this weekend to install replacement canister
Could a bad VCV valve be the culprit ? I can test it tomorrow at work.
Is there anything else I'm missing ?
I'm in SoCal so I need to keep the emissions system intact and in good working order.
Thanks !
Anders
