I picked up the '67 FJ45LV today and it almost made it home under it's own power. If the fan belt wouldn't have jumped off and made the truck over heat and blow the rad hose it would have made it!

I'll be doing a complete restoration on it which hopefully will include a disc axle and a 4 speed tranny. Currently the front driveshaft splines are quite sloppy so I'll need a new shaft. Is that common with '40's? The altenator is the wrong one and is causing the belt to jump off the pulleys. I assume that is the same as any other F engine. I'll post up some photos of the carb as well as they PO has an air cleaner that's about the right size for a ride on mower!

I would not say that it is 'common', but would be if neglected, and not lubed...

Congrats!

Chances are they swapped in a 69-74 alternator which runs the wide belt, whereas the 67 and older run the narrower belt. You can still buy the narrow pulley from the dealer for less than twenty bucks IIRC.

Front driveshafts generally DON'T wear like the rears UNLESS the truck had the lockouts which kept the shaft turning all the time. Early shafts are not that hard to come by. ;)

F135s rock. Talk to GroundUp about some valvecover decals. They're not perfect replicas, but they are a nice finishing touch that may not be around when you are ready for them.

I meant, are they common to both the '40 series and the FJ45 or do I need to find a specific FJ45 shaft?

front is the same for a 40 as a 45, rear is not
