Contgrat's on your new toy! That color looks amazing!
Here's my 2¢ worth of advice. Uhh, wait... Inflation, $2 worth of advice.
I see you're an Army vet. I am an active Army reservist so you'll understand what I'm about to say regarding mods for your rig.
Plan your end game.
What is it you eventually want to do with it, go with it, use it for:
- Does it need to be a kiddo hauler weekdays and fire trails on weekends?
- Road trips
- Overlanding in remote areas
- Rock crawling (I don't suggest building for this, beat up a Jeep if you want to do that)
- Or???
I've built 3 overlanders so far so I can say with experience that this will determine the following:
- How heavy you need your suspension to be.
- How much gear you plan on usually hauling for your adventures.
- How much armor you want.
- How large of tires are you planning.
- Do you need a rear bumper to hang a spare tire or will your tire size be small enough for stock location spare.
- Roof rack.
- Roof top tent.
What are your electrical needs?
- Winch?
- Aux lighting?
- HAM radios?
- Electric fridge
- Inverter?
- Dual batteries?
- High output alternator?
And the list goes on as long as your bank account (or your wife) holds out.
I know this probably sounds daunting right now, but spend some time looking at rigs in these build up threads:

Mine is a little on the extreme side but everything works great and my wife and LOVE it!:
Builds - R2M 2013 Lexus GX 460 Overland / Overlander Build - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/r2m-2013-lexus-gx-460-overland-overlander-build.1104719/
Works great for road trips, wheeling, overlanding, everything! But again, everyone has they're own taste on how they plan on using their vehicles. This just happens to be ours flavor.
