So I just picked up a new 1997 Lexus LX 450, and I'm excited to have a big truck once again and look forward to modifying it and making it look like it belongs in Colorado. One of the weird selling points I got from the dealer was that it apparently was used to haul the Bronco's mascot for the games downtown.

Do you guys know reliable sources to get repair manuals that aren't $100+? I've had this thing 36 hours and I've already had the annoying P0401 light come on and am waiting to get a new modulator on Monday which is apparently now $70+ at the major parts chains.

Thanks guys, I just ordered the part from Ebay... that is a great money saver! I just wish I could've paid for quicker shipping.

Does anyone know of a good mechanic that's familiar with these rigs on the East side? I work on Buckley AFB and nobody seems to know any. I kind of trust the Firestone on post, but I'm also leaning towards finding someone through the mechanics files on the Car Talk website.

Do yourself a favor and drive out to Slee Offroad in Golden. Great guys and very knowledgeable. These trucks have their quirks and I am not going to say your average mechanic couldn't figure them out, but why pay for all the learning time when you have one of the best 80 series shops in your backyard.

Yeah, definitely check out Slee. It's a pretty good drive from you, but it's worth it. They'll get it done right the first time and they have alot of parts for these rigs on hand.

The CEL came back the very next day (actually the day after but)

So I installed the modulator and this morning on the way to lovely Buckley AFB the CEL came back on. At lunch I went to O'Reilly's and replaced the hoses come off of it, reset the light, and refilled my tank from half to full. I also got their $163.00 ERG valve, but I'm waiting to install that only if the light comes back.

1) I'm guessing I probably paid too much for the ERG
2) Am I seeing a false correlation between being close to or under a half tank of gas when the P0401 occurs?

Did you by chance clean out all the vac ports on the intake with a metal wire or other? These ports get clogged with carbon and can lead to P0401 code. This should be done and cost $0

Did you test the EGR for damage/leak?
