New 1989 FJ62

Recently bought this rig to be a new project. Hoping to pull a 1,800 lbs trailer for camping. Already has OME and 33s. VIN search tells me its 2wd but surely is 4wd. Anyway to accurately break down V
IN? JT3FJ62G3K1111048. I also would like confirmation that this is a 3F-E motor.

1989 FJ-62 was only available in the US with the 3FE. Unless the engine was swapped, it is a 3FE...throw up a picture of the engine bay.

I’m pretty sure Toyota never made a 2wd land cruiser. 4runners are a different story. But a land cruiser is all about 4wd. I could be wrong. If you have two drive shafts then you have 4x4... assuming your transfer case is working properly and your front lockers are in good shape.

No engine bay shots. Wont take possession until thursday. Tested 4wd high and low and works fine. Really hoping with 4.88 gears it can pull this trailer for camping. Looking for old school Sam Elliot cool vehicle on offroad trip.

Add a transmission cooler along with the factory one thats in the radiator and make sure the oil galley plug fix has been done check to see if it has been done as soon as you get it. And congrats

Also check the high pressure line coming off the power steering pump check for the hose dry rotting in the bend right after the hard line after the pump where it bends down mine failed there because of the tight bend and its old i got a replacement from auto zone was aroud 50 dollars the oem one is nla and was listed as 900 dollars that was the highest around 600 but nla

Going to give everything a once over this weekend. Not in my position yet but will be Thursday. I have budget money ready to make repairs right away. Im heading to Windrock on Feb 14th and hope to bring this too.

I have done all my own work on our Jeeps except re-gearing as i dont have the tools for the back lash and shims. Told that Toyota use a adjusting nut. Is it pro only install or a do it yourself person capable. Research says 4.88 to go with 33s and will then be better tow rig for trailer.

It's an opportunity to make some tools.

These axles use nuts for pre-load. Make yourself a spanner wrench for that. Spend a lot of time reading on gearinstalls.com.

I’ve read the cooler before, any specific size or model?

Dial indicators are cheap. You can set your own gears up, just take your time and have a clean organized area.
