98 Toyota HZJ105 Left Hand Drive.
To my knowledge, I have the only Left Hand Drive 105 "legally" imported to the USA. There are a handful of Right Hand Drive 105's in the country, with most coming from Australia or South Africa.
This one has the GX trim, which has vinyl floor covering , cloth seats, and power windows/door locks.
It's equipped with a 5-speed manual, rear tire carrier, ambulance doors, and has a sub-tank giving you an additional 12.5 gallons of fuel capacity over the 25-gal main tank. The rear troop seats were removed sometime prior to import, and has the front bucket seats and second row bench seat. It has the center cool box (fridge), but haven't tried to see if it works or not.
There's no airbags, cruise control, sunroof or roof rack.
Prior to import, the vehicle was thoroughly gone through. Including a professional repaint, with the undercarriage was professionally hand sanded to remove any surface rust, and POR type undercoating applied to the underside, and all the axle, frame, and suspension components. The only place left unpainted was under the hood and engine compartment, which has signs of the petrified desert moon dust clinging to some areas that a pressure washer won't remove, but I'm sure dry ice blasting will get it off easily.
The previous and original owner was the UAE Ministry of Interior, and at one time it has sirens and lights (behind the grill), which have been removed with some remnants of some wiring and brackets remaining. It appears they also added horns that go "honk" instead of the typical Land Cruiser "beep". That part wasn't done very well, and the horns are intermittent. There's a rocker switch on the left side of the dash, which I assume was for the emergency service lights, and a filler plug on the center console which I assume was for the siren?
The factory radio/stereo was replaced with a no-name brand AM/FM/CD unit that blends in very well and almost looks factory. The power antenna does work, and integrated with the stereo in addition to the up/down buttons on the dash.
The front drivers seat seat cushion fabric was replaced, and unfortunately it wasn't the original fabric pattern, but it's a close match, and doesn't look bad.
I purchased a set of five brand new OEM steel wheels for it, as two of the original the paint (very thick) was peeling off and mild surface rust was present. Purchasing new wheels was cheaper than having the original wheels blasted and professionally repainted or powder coated. Those five wheels are still in the factory boxes, along with new lug nuts. The windshield was also replaced, but it's a Mr Glass brand, and appears to be good quality, and sealed properly.
I also purchased several thousand dollars worth of new/spare parts (all OEM) such as air filter box (uses 80-series style canister filter), oil pan, water pump, glow plugs, filters (oil/fuel), belts, hoses, etc.
New AGM battery, and WeatherTech floor mats added.
Timing belt was replaced at 122xxx KM prior to importation. Currently it has 123xxx KM (or just under 77K miles). The odometer is LCD, and sunburnt, so it's hard to see the milage in daylight. So unfortunately I haven't keep track of fuel economy, but compared to all my other Land Cruisers, this thing sips fuel.
The transfer case is a part time 4x4 system that gives you 2H/4H/L4 positions in addition to a neutral position. First gear is super low, and almost feels like your in 4L. The transmission is not the typical H151, but another variant (R150?) That is ultra smooth shifting and not know for having syncro issues like the H151 series has.
Where I live at 8700-ft elevation, cruising at 65-mph is about it, and doing a long uphill climb slows you down... and rolls coal if you have your foot into it. A HAC kit added would probably help, and you can source those from Columbia.
I have $49K into this with all the extras, but the guy who imported it for me tells me $45K is more realistic in this current market. So $45K is a firm price.
Since people always ask, only trades I'd be interested in would be...
98/99 100-series Land Cruiser with rear locker, in River Rock Mica with Gray interior, and under 200K miles.
2025 4Runner off-road (non-premium, and non-hybrid) in Underground (the color).
I live off-grid without cell service or Internet, so please be patient in my response.
